when the heck do you do it?? Before LO and throughout my entire pregnancy I worked out. I've always been healthy and probably had a better body when I was pg (minus the big belly of course!)
It is just so hard to carve out time to workout, even though we got a treadmill for the house. After working all day, coming home and cooking, bathing dd, getting her to bed then washing her bottles etc from daycare and cleaning up who the hell has the energy to workout? It's so frustrating because I try but I can't be consistent. And, I am NOT getting up at 5:30am to do it. So, if you are a working mom that makes exercising a priority, how do you do it and have the energy and motivation?
Re: If you make time to workout regularly
I WAH part time but I still work "normal" hours. I go on my lunch break for a walk. I make a point to take a lunch break and get out.
I only work two days a week right now but I keep consistent by walking with S to the park at the same time that I would be on lunch break the rest of the week.
Honestly, it is not nearly as much working out as I would like but it keeps me eating better all day and by building it in as a routine I feel like I am slowly getting back to normal.
Well, unfortunately, I get up at 5am - but I don't work out that early. I work 7:30am-3:30pm. I get DD to daycare around 7. After work, I go home and work out. Sometimes I run, sometimes I do a video. So, basically, I leave DD at daycare for an extra hour or so after I get off of work.
Motivation - I just do it. Yep, I'm tired a lot of days. But, I worked out when I was pregnant and I was tired then too. I know it sounds like a cop out to say I just do it. But, I have a lot of conversations in my head driving home from work, where I tell myself, I know you're tired, but suck it up. You'll feel fine once you're out. And, when I get home, I don't sit down. Walk in the door and put my running clothes on and walk out the door. 10 minutes in the house, tops. If I give myself time to think about it, I have time to convince myself tomorrow will be better (I've learned only rarely is tomorrow any different from today!)
I have been home since I had Jackson.. I am heading back to work at the end of this week and I am wondering the same thing you are. I get home before 3:00 though, so I have a bit more flexibility. In order to workout and shower in the morning, get Jackson to daycare, and get to work by 7:15, I would have to get up at 5am and that would be cutting it reeeallly close.
I have a few options... I just have to see how things play out.
Option #1 I work at a high school with a fully equipped gym and weight room... I could work out there before I go to get Jackson from daycare.
Option #2 Head straight home from work and put him down for his afternoon nap at home, then workout while he is napping, and either shower if there is time, or shower later on in the evening.
Option #3 We have a fully enclosed baby pen area in the basement right next to my treadmill.. I could take him down there when we get home from daycare, he can play, and I can hop on the treadmill. (This is not idea though because he is still pulling up and falling a lot).
He is still taking afternoon naps around 3:00.. so I am hoping that option 2 works out for the time being, and then I can adjust as needed.
I used to work out in the mornings before I worked at a daycamp and I have to tell you... it was a great way to start off my day. I felt great.
Good luck, mama!
Thanks ladies! I KNOW I just need to make myself do it, because like a pp said, if I think about it too long I will think of the million other things I have to do or how tired I am and then I won't workout.
I set my alarm for 5:30 every morning but ALWAYS put it on sleep until 6, at least I have good intentions lol.
This sounds like a GREAT plan, but my dh's job is much more demanding than mine ( he doesn't get home until at least an hour after me) or else this would be perfect!
I have yet to figure this out. I also worked out regularly pre-pregnancy and while pregnant. The thing is that I already get up at 5:30 a.m. to pump and I'm not getting up earlier than that. 6 hours of sleep is already barely enough to get by on. I have weeks where I do pretty good, getting in 4-5 workouts, but then I get so overwhelmed by all the stuff I'm behind on that I give up again
:::sigh:::

I always worked out pre-pg and during my pregnancy, too, and it was important to me that I get back into it. I didn't, though, until DS was 8 months old and finally sleeping all night!
I aim to work out 3-4 times per week (and I don't count leisurely walks with DH and DS as a workout) - I'm not willing to cut into my time with DS after work since I only get a couple hours, so I just wake up at 5:15 on the days I want to work out. I only get 20-30 minutes in (usually 30 Day Shred or yoga), but it's better than nothing!
I work full time and have an hour and a half commute each way and work out 3-5Xs a week. I used to work out darn near 7 days a week, so this transition is the hardest part of mommyhood for me (not just working out, sports and activities over all).
I do get up at 0430 to do it though, so my schedule wouldn't work for you. There are times when DH and I go at night. I get off around 430pm and we'll hit the gym around 530 and LO will play with the kids in the day care. We typically will order in sushi those nights and pick it up on the way home.
To jam it all in, DH and I split the house choirs. Our morning and evening routine is like clock work now.
