1st Trimester

What to ask?

I have my first OB appointment tonight.  I read I should have many questions for my doctor but I really can't think of a single one!  My brain is fried.  Any suggestions on what I may want to ask my OB tonight?

Re: What to ask?

  • My first appt is tomorrow, here's what I have on my list to ask so far:

    Is my ankle swelling normal?
What's the best position to sleep in?
What daily exericises I should do?
Should I stay away when we paint the baby's room?
Are the chemicals in cleaning products safe for me to be around?

I'm sure I will come up with a few more. Also, I'm hoping my doc will answer most of these during our consultation without me having to ask.

  • I have my first appointment tomorrow, and am having the same problem... The main things that I want to ask about are:

    • Prenatal Vitamins (mine are making me sick, so I would love recommendations or RX samples to see if I can find one that's better on my stomach)
    • What kind of testing is appropriate for us to consider? (blood work, NT Scan, CVS, etc)
    • When during my pregnancy I will likely have ultrasounds (how many, at what weeks, etc...)
    • What an average "appointment schedule" looks like through the pregnancy (how often I'll be coming in, how far in advance I should schedule the appointments)
    • What to expect at my next appointment (the first appt is w/a nurse practitioner, and then two weeks from then I'll have an appointment with the doctor)
Good luck, hope it goes great for you!!!
  • Every time I thought of a question, I kept track of it in my phone.  I'm planning on asking my doctor about how much caffeine is safe, whether or not aspartame is safe, and about birthing/first time parent classes.  Hope this helps and good luck!  I can't wait until my appointment

  • Thanks, these have been helpful.  I am also going to ask how long up until delivery should I work, when is the latest you can fly, are there other things I should be doing/monitoring during the pregnany.
  • You all have been most helpful.  Thank you so much!

  • I am making a list too, although I'm not sure how helpful it will be since my first appointment with with a nurse practitioner instead of an OB. When I settle on a midwife, I guess I'll dump all my questions on her.
