Please recommend your basic sewing machine

I'm looking for a sewing machine to use to make some little dresses for my daughter, mend some clothes and embellish clothes. Nothing super labor intensive or complicated.

Do any of you have a sewing machine you'd recommend?

    I have a Brother that I bought at Target about 1 years ago.  It was their least expensive one but it works great for the simple stuff I do.

    My mom has a Brother sewing machine that she has been using for probably 30 years so I think they are a good brand.

    I have a Singer Prelude.  Basic, easy to operate, and does the job.  /brother and Singer are both good brands.
