Both mine and my DH's parents are divorced so together we have 4 sets of parents. We're both closer with our moms (who raised us) so they know we are TTC and they'll probably be the most excited for us. But I'm especially wondering how to make it fun to tell our fathers whom we see about 6 times a year. Both of our dads are kind of quiet and private, so they've never really asked us if we wanted kids. I'd like to tell all 4 sets in person (not at the same time), but looking for a cute way to do it. Thanks for any advice ![]()
Re: Thinking ahead...How did you tell your parents that you were pregnant?
I called them on the phone and in the course of conversation when my Mom asked what was going on, I said, "Well, I'm pregnant."
I know, exciting, right? My parents live 2000 miles away, and they knew we were TTC, so I didn't feel the need for any fanfare.
For DH's parents, they live in the same town as us, so we went to their house, and in a similar fashion, DH just blurted it out.
Sorry. Nothing fun to share with you. I will share this poem with you, though, that's been posted here several times. If this type of thing is your style, you could put it in a frame for them.
I do not have a face to see,
or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss;
I don't yet have a name.
You can't hold my tiny hands,
nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come April 10th,
when they say I'm due.
I'm your new grandson or granddaughter;
I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then
is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
because of all the love we'll know.
So as you're waiting patiently,
please pray lots of prayers for me.
I cannot wait to be a part
of this wonderful family!
My mom came to visit this week and I was giving her a tour of the house (we made a lot of changes since the last time she came by). I ended the tour with the office saying "And this room we're turning into the nursery". It took her a minute but then she hopped up and and down crying. It was cute.
I plan on mailing my sister and my dad a picture of the ultrasound and calling everyone else.
We're planning on asking "Do you prefer to be called Grandpa & Grandma, or something else?" My parents already have grandchildren, so they already have nicknames, but we're going to ask if they still want to be called that.
Another idea I've heard is showing a recent picture (taken after you conceived) and saying, "Guess how many people are in the picture."

I told my mom "we had another positive pregnancy test, I'll keep you posted."
The magic is pretty gone in terms of announcing a pregnancy at our house. If I actually ever make it past an NT scan, then we'll all celebrate.
We actually just told my parents yesterday. We went over their hous and my brother, his son, and his fiance were also over. I had made my nephew a onsie that said "I am going to be a big cousin." So after a while of talking and visiting I said "I made Teddy (my nephew) a onsie, wanna see." and I pulled it out and showed them.
We were trying to think of a cute way to tell them and I actually thought of this the morning we were planning on telling them.
We called my parents the morning after our +hpt. I asked if they wouldn't mind spending their anniversary trip at our house with the new baby. My mom cried and my dad was really excited. We made up a website to update as things progress and we sent it to my H's parents and then called them the next morning as well.
