..and you went back to work, did he/she eventually start taking one? Wrong board for me - but I thought you ladies might have some insight. I'm going back to work in a couple of weeks, and I'm so worried that DD is just going to cry all day and refuse to eat. I can occassionally get her to take a bottle with A LOT of encouragement. She basically refuses a bottle from anyone else. I guess I just need some reassurance from people that have been in a similiar situation. Any advice/tips would be great as well!
Re: If your BF baby refused a bottle....
We had our son taking a bottle, although he didn't really like it and it took a lot of effort to get him to eat and then he stopped completely about a week into daycare. They had to feed him with a syringe while we figured it out. It took 9 bottles, but we finally realized he would only take a latex nipple. Once we figured that out, he started taking a bottle without a problem. If she isn't thrilled with the bottle you are using now, I would keep trying different ones. We knew as soon as we found the right bottle because he didn't fuss at all, just took it in his mouth and ate an entire bottle with no problem. We are using Playtex Drop-ins with a latex nipple.

We are lucky to have family watching DD so we did a few dry runs. I am glad b/c she'd take a bottle from my mom no problem, but not FIL. He's watching her for 3 hours twice a week. She really likes him a lot, but she refused a bottle from him for 3 days, then the 4th day he was over she reluctantly took it.
My advice would be have someone else try to giver her a bottle, not you. DD will rarely take a bottle from me b/c she wants me to feed her directly. She'll take one from DH, my mom, FIL (now) no problem though. Can your H feed her a bottle one a day just to get her used to it?
People said "if she's hungry enough she'll eat" when we were having difficulties, but even if it's true the last thing you want is your baby starving & miserable on the first day you aren't there. Good luck.

My girls took bottles, as well as breast feeding, from day one. But one of the girls had problems latching and with bottles. After a lot of trial and error, she took to the Tommy Tippy bottles. You can get them at BRU. They have a shorter protruding nipple and wider nipple base.
I suggested these to my friend who's baby wouldn't take a bottle at all. Her baby liked them right away!
Good luck!

My LO started refusing a bottle a couple of weeks before my return to work. We tried everything we could think (different bottles, different people feeding him, different positions, environments, etc) with no luck. They got him to take a bottle from day 1 at daycare. He wasn't thrilled about it the first few days but did take it. Now he takes it without a problem from anyone, including me.
