Did you get it when the baby was born or not?

Re: Hep B shot

  • nope.  we waited until the 2 month appt.  I wanted her little body to grow some b4 pumping a vaccine in her body.

  • No. It wasn't offered. I think I would've opted to postpone it, had it been. LO had pretty bad jaundice, circumcised and latching issues. I wouldn't have wanted to ad one more thing at the time.

  • DS didn't get the Hep B shot at birth because the hospital didn't administer it as a requirement. He did get the first Hep B shot at his 1 month check up.

  • Nope.... In Saskatchewan, NO babies get it.   The regular schedule here does it in Grade 6.
  • Yes, Mikylah got it at birth. We did so b/c we wanted to get it over with.

  • I believe the pediatrician said LO would get it at his 2 month appointment.  she did tell me that if I was hep B positive they would have given him the vaccine while at the hospital.
  • NO.  Didn't want DS to have to get any shots at that age.  Plus, they start the series over at our Pedi's office.  So the series of 3 would turn into a series of 4.  Not necessary IMO.

  • Yes, get it over with and keep as close to schedule as possible.

This but DS will get it at 3 months.  You could wait even longer since babies aren't likely to get Hep B, unless Mom is positive, so it really just depends on what you want to do.  Find out what your pedi recommends.

  • I believe he got the first one at the hospital and the booster/2nd dose at his one month appointment.  I chose for him to get it because I feel it is more socially responsible to get children vaccinated as recommended unless they have adverse reactions or something like that.

  • No.  I'm confident that DS will not come into contact with Hep B before he gets vaccinated at a later date.  The reasoning behind vaccinating at birth is to combat the public health issue of compliance, mostly within the lower economic population (not to judge, but statistics show they have a lower compliance rate for vaccinations) and since this is a 3 part vaccine there is a much greater chance of parents not following through to completion.

    Ditto this.

  • Yes, DS got it in the hospital.  We are on a regular vaccination schedule.  We trust our pedi and chose for DS to get it.

  • We did not. I did not see a need to give my little boy a vaccine against an STD at birth. DH or I don't have it, and he will not be going to daycare. He will get it during his immunizations.

This exactly.  The pedi told us the only reason the schedule has changed is because of the irresponsible parents out there who don't take their kids to get vaccinated later on...and Hep B is an important vaccine in the end.  I got mine in middle school...there is no reason DD needed it at birth.  Birth is hard enough!

  • I was on the fence, but ended up getting it at the hospital and am sooo glad I did!

First, LO slept right through it.  I kid you not - he was so sleepy after being born, he slept through everything - his Hep B shot, his heel sticks (he had to have a few because I had GD), all of it.

We just got home from his 2 month appointment and he had to have 2 shots today.  He was so cranky after his 1 month booster shot that we opted to have both shots today.  He screamed and screamed and it broke my heart.  So one less shot was worth it to me to do at the hospital instead of today!!

  • no because my newborn is not at risk of getting Hep B.  I think it's ridiculous to give my newborn a shot as soon as he's born for something he's not at risk to get.
