So my newest issue is that DD takes a bag - any kind - ziploc, purse, kid's size tote - anything she can get her hands on - and then stuffs it with stuff. It is never just one kind of thing, it is junk from all over the house. For instance, this morning I found a bag with my keys, a tomato, matchbox cars, tissues, and other stuff.
I cannot take it any more... any suggestions?
(And about a sentence into this, DD found her Halloween pumpkin (that you collect your candy in) and started taking stuff like puzzle pieces and play cookware and stuffed it full).
It takes me FOREVER to resort the stuff and usually we end up looking all over. I mean what if I hadn't happened to see the ziploc with the tomato and keys in it? It is not the first time I woudl have found a rotting piece of fruit somewhere.. plus my keys?
I am going to have to try to get rid of anything that can hold other stuff, but any suggestions? My DH isn't around much and we are so busy, I'm trying to juggle the two kids basically on my own, I can't take extra frustrations!
Re: I've had it.. no more bags!!!
My rule has always been she can take one thing with her in the car unless we are on an extended trip or something. She has two loveys (a monkey and a blanket). Only one could go to daycare with her on any given day - we switched daycare/preschool in June and I told her that the new school didn't allow her to bring her lovey with her - she had no issue with it. I figured that was my one and only chance to stop carting things around.
I would try this....if a simple "no" isnt working...then create a "station" where she can do these things...maybe even a shopping cart or something where she can put the allowed items into her bag/cart.... Then just explain that this is the ONLY area and these are the ONLY things she may take...Every once in a while switch out those things with new things so she doesnt get bored.
This, plus put the responsibility on her to return the items back at the end of the day. Make it part of your nightly chores - she most likely will remember what she did that day and it is up to her to return the items to their original locations.
