my 5 month old has had a few long streches at night in the past (maybe 6 hours or so) but the past month she wakes up every 3 hours maybe even every 2 1/2 hours during the night. She does eat every 3 hours during the day. What am I doing wrong?? I am so exhausted and instead of feeling better i feel like my body is shutting down.
did this happen to anyone else? any ideas?
Re: 5 month old (BFE) up every 3 hours at night?
DD is BF and she will wake up more in the night when she is working on her milestones like rolling over, doesn't get as good naps during the day and as a result falls asleep while feeding, gets distracted while feeding so stops feeding earlier to smile and giggle at me. If I can get her to nurse really well (in a quiet room) for the late afternoon and evening feeds, that helps. Also do you do a dream feed ? sometimes that helps her sleep longer but not always. I read on kellymom that sleep regresses around 4-5 months.
I wish I could help, but we are even worse off than you. My son slept one 6 hour stretch after his 2 month shots and that's the best we've ever gotten out of him. If we are really lucky we'll get a 3 hour stretch, but most nights he's up every 1-2 hours and it's been this way since he was born. I have no idea what I can do to make him sleep better. He eats plenty during the day and he's not always hungry when he wakes up at night, it's almost like he's afraid of missing something. He doesn't really nap either, so I guess I just have a baby that doesn't need sleep! I know I don't help things by nursing him back to sleep when he gets up, but when I'm up 4-6 times a night I can't think about all the things I should do to get him to sleep, I just want to get him back to sleep so I can go back to sleep. I have to admit that I feel like I'm doing everything wrong because we have nothing even resembling a schedule and he doesn't sleep, however, he is an extremely happy baby (and I do feel a little better knowing he does the same thing at daycare - so it's not just me).
Good luck! I hope you figure this out soon.
