A bit of backstory. Bill and I aren't married. We've talked about it several times but both have been content with the way things are. We know it will happen one day, just no rush kind of thing.

Then today we were snuggling and talking and he says "So, um, yeah. Can you look online and get me some ideas of rings you like?" I said "What kind of rings?" because I wasn't sure what he meant. He responds "Engagement rings, duh." He's so flippin romantic and all LOL!

Apparently I have awfully expensive tastes though. I can't bear thinking of daily wearing a $2k+ ring. I'll screw it up for sure! Anyone have good sites to look at rings? I'm not thinking Amazon is the best place Embarrassed

What kind of rings do you like?

DH bought mine at Zales. It's a simple solitaire. I'm sure all the zales, kays, and other jewelry stores have them online so he can at least get an idea.

I used the debeers website and tiffany's but not to buy this ring but to look at styles. DH picked one out on his own though i just requested a "round diamond. so excited for you.

DH is picky and refused to buy a ring without looking at it first so he got mine at a jewelry store here, but my best friends husband got her ring from bluenile.com

They are apparently pretty good as far as customer service, and have a good selection that isn't terribly priced.

I would second bluenile.com.

We got my band at Jared's. I was skeptical, but to get the same band at the independent jewelry store we got my e-ring from was almost 3x the price.

Jareds will replate your rings indefintely which is nice if you plan on getting white gold.

I would say go to the mall, b/c than you can try them on. That way you get an idea of what you like and leave the rest up to him.

YAY! Congrats!!!!!! I second bluenile - you could always buy loose diamonds and have them set somewhere local. We were stupid, free spending 22 year olds when DH paid cash for my name brand designer diamond ring. He spent so much on the setting that there wasn't much left for the diamond, but I have a perfect little 1/2 carat. But, I love love love my e-ring

We always choose quality over quantity. Have fun shopping!!!

That's very cool. DH got my ring at Riddles but I don't know if they are in your area or not. I'd try to figure out what shape you like, type of band, etc. Etsy is kind of fun to look at rings, they have some neat outside the box types.

I uhh picked this one out the other day, for next time you know, just in case. It's actually a white sapphire instead of a diamond.

Aw congrats! Your DH and mine would be great friends. My DH bought the ring I showed him that I liked...right in front of me. And then "hid" it in his sock drawer...for 6 MONTHS! I went BSC, seriously!

We got mine at Fred Meyer Jewelers and I love it, but it wasn't inexpensive, so I'm not sure if that helps you. I'm sure they do though.

Congrats! DH got mine at Helzberg. We looked around together, and that was the only place I found ones I liked, I think going to the a store would be best to at least get an idea of what you like. Some of the styles I thought I would love looked awful on me.

I will third (or fourth?) Blue Nile! My e-ring & wedding band are both from there. They have great customer service & lots of options. I like that you can create your own ring, basically. Happy shopping!

I won't be much help because DH got mine at a local jeweler. Downtown there is a large building with several jewelers - all local - none like at the mall. I actually picked my rings - I knew basically what I wanted - antique lookings, white gold or plat, princess cut with something on the sides. We looked at one store in that builidng and then went to an actual antique dealer and then back there. I fell in love with my rings and I am so glad I picked them myself, but that's just me.

Even if you don't want to pick them I do recommend at least looking with him in person, that way he knows what you want (a picture is harder to tell with - in my opinion). Also, my diamond was seperate from the setting, but they were bought at the same store. That can really help determine the cost - by the size and rating of the diamond. Good luck - this is super exciting!!

I will go one step past Blue Nile! My DH found the type of diamond he wanted on Blue Nile, printed out the info and went to a local trusted jeweler and said that he wanted that type of diamond. The jeweler was able to buy the EXACT diamond DH found on Blue Nile (because every diamond has it's own serial #) and the jeweler sold the diamond to DH for CHEAPER than Blue Nile was selling it for. DH then found a setting in that store to mount my diamond.
