Hey Ladies,
I was just wondering if any one has hypothyroidism (or low thyroid function), if so what were your symptoms and how did you approach talking to your doctor about it.
I am asking because I have been reading TCOYF and I noticed hypothyroidism. I only just started temping for the past 2 days but both times my temps have been below 97 and I have not seen AF in over 90 days.
I have an appointment with the OB/GYN in 2 weeks so if the low temp continues I am wondering if I should bring this up at that time.
TIA

Re: Hypothyroidism question.
I'm assuming you haven't been formally diagnosed with hypo at this time?
Other symptoms (besides low temps/feeling cold): not much of an appetite, dry skin, very low energy/sleepy, swollen throat/glands. Have you experienced any of those?
I was diagnosed hyperthyroid a few years back and have since become hypo through medication. I currently take Synthroid to regulate it, but I haven't noticed any symptoms since my initial treatments a few years ago.
Definitely bring it up in your next dr.'s visit. Left untreated, hypo/hyper thyroid issues can cause problems with fertility, but if managed/treated, it shouldn't be a problem.
No, I have not been formally diagnosed, I just switched doctors because I was completely unsatisifed with the doctor I had.
I have had some of them symptoms, not all of them, but definitely some of them. I will be bringing this up to the doctor.
Thank you!
Thanks!
I'll def. check out that site!
I was diagnosed when I was 15 due to my thyroid being 5 times the normal size and b/c hypothyroidism runs in my family. That being said, I HIGHLY suggest you see and endocrinologist to treat any thyroid issues and make sure they know you are TTC. Many labs/physicians have differing views on what level is normal and ideally, your TSH level should be between 1 and 2 in you are TTC.
GL!
I have hypothyroidism. My initial symptoms were very heavy periods every 3 weeks. I then started with having very little energy and gaining a lot of weight even though I wasn't overeating. When my medication is off, I get dry skin and eyes, fatigue, sometimes constipation, and gain weight easily.
Your doc can prescribe a simple blood test to check your levels. If there is a problem, the medication is inexpensive.
This. I was diagnosed at age 8 and really didn't understand that the differing views on what is normal could be a big problem. In fact when I did go see an endo (for the first time) at age 28 my TSH was a 5.5 which my regular doctor though was subclinical & I didn't need additional meds. Not only that I always though I was depressed when in reality I was on the wrong thyroid med. I now actually have to take a compound (replacement for Armour thyroid) because your thryoid actually makes more hormones than the T3 & T4 that synthroid & cytomel replaces. Feel free to ask if you want more info. & details-some is embarassing.
