Poll: Books

Just curious...

Will you be reading any "guide" books during your pregnancy?

If so, which ones and why did you choose those particular books?

Re: Poll: Books

  • I never read any books with DD, I don't plan on reading any this time.

I'm just not sure what books could teach me. Not that I know everything, but I feel like I have a good enough knowledge base to get through the 9 months healthy and happy!

  • I will probably read most of the "big" (ie well known) ones.  I've already reserved like 6 at the local library.  Its not that I don't know these things already, its that I'm totally type A!

The primary reason I ask is because I have heard that some of the "big" ones are just a total waste of time - i.e. I've had several people tell me just to skip WTEWE all together, because it's just really not that helpful. Checking them out at the library is a great suggestion, I def might look into that as an alternative to throwing away $$$! Thanks!

ETA: Agreed, it's the type A personality in me that just really feels like I need to be actively doing something to prepare.

  • "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth," "The Baby Catcher" ---- both are empowering and informative.

"Your Best Birth" has also ben recommended to me repeatedly.

I've read the bolded so far.  I wasn't even pg when I borrowed those from the library... I just like reading about stuff like this.

I would recommend those, not sure if I would buy them but I would definitely borrow them again.

I will probably read the"must read" ones that the general consensus agrees on mainly because, again, I like to read about this stuff.

And I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Boston. Smile

Thanks for the confirmations - I too just like to read about this stuff, esp since it's happening to me right now.

  • I have WTEWYE and Your Pregnancy: Week by Week.  I like the latter much better, because it's by week.  I will probably read that one, starting in a few more weeks.

Also, I plan on reading the Jenny McCarthy book, Belly Laughs.  I've heard it's great and funny.

  • Just read Skinny *** - Bun in the Oven and it completely changed my life. I've gone completely vegetarian ... and am seriously considering going vegan - at the very least, I'm dairy and land animal free. Though, we are getting chickens this week, and I feel better about eggs and chicken if they come from my own backyard.

I'll have to pick up Belly Laughs...I love JM!

  •

    My SIL swears by WTEWE.

My sister and BFF loved Your Pregnancy: Week by Week, so I got both!!!

They are put away right now until my betas come back.

I got DH: She's Having a Baby and I'm having  a Breakdown. It's supposed to be funny, and it's written in question answer form. Since he's not a reader, I think this will help.

  • I have Your Pregnancy Week by Week. I've started to read it twice and like what I've read with both previous pregnancies. Other than this book, I'll probably learn a lot on these boards and the Internet in general. I've also read Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs which is a light read but so funny!

    Oooooooh great idea and recommendation!

I had briefly thought about getting DH his own book, he's just been reading up on the net thus far. I might def consider going back to that idea now that you've recommended this! Thanks!

  • I bought "Your Pregnancy Week By Week" and the Mayo Click Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. Awhile ago I borrowed Ina May's Guide to Better Childbirth from a friend, which I'll probably start reading one of these days. I'd also like to check out "Your Best Birth" from the library.

I also have like 4 pregnancy apps and subscribed to like 18 million email newsletters about pregnancy.

    Clearly, I'm crazy.
