Withdrawals :( (long)

Hey ladies..I wanted to share what I'm going through, and see if any of you are going through it too..

I've been on Lexapro/Celexa (anti-anxiety/anti-depressant) since 4/2007, and Provigil (for Hypersomnia - sorta like Narcolepsy, but not quite) since 8/2008..I got my BFP on Monday, and haven't taken any of my meds since Tuesday..Now, it's probably my fault (but there's nothing I can do about it now), but I should have spoken to my OB when DH and I decided we wanted to TTC - which was 7/22 - about the medications I'm on, so that I could have tried to wean off them..But I didn't..and we also didn't wait the 3 months after BC like we should have..I did, however, make a pre-conception appointment for 9/1 to talk about this stuff (I made it in the beginning of August, but they couldn't get me in any earlier), but we all know I don't need that appointment anymore..I do also have an appt with the MW on 9/7 to now talk about my meds, because I'm really concerned, but that is over a week away..

Anyway, I'm now going through what I think are withdrawals..It could also be my heart palpitations from not taking my Celexa, but how I feel overall leads me to think it's W/D's I'm going through.. When I made the appt to speak to the MW about my meds, they said to keep taking them (when the day before, the receptionist said not to because they don't usually want you on anything in your 1st trimester)..But at that point, I hadn't been taking any meds for about a day, and I didn't want to start them back up, because I'm afraid of what I read about the drugs and pregnancy - they're a class C drug..

I'm jittery, my heart is fluttering, and I feel like I have a cloud surrounding my head...The scary part, though, is without the Provigil, I'm likely to nod off while driving, which is where the benefit would outweigh the risks..

Sorry this post was so long, and all over the place (which is what my brain feels like now), but I don't know what to do..My appt is on the 7th, and feels like a long way away, especially if they turn around and say to take some of my meds again because the benefit is greater than the risk...I was wondering if any of you guys are on meds while pregnant, or if you had to stop them, and if you're going through W/D's..Thanks, guys..I hope I start feel better soon - maybe just in time for the morning sickness to kick in...:/

Re: Withdrawals :( (long)

  • Sorry that you are going through all of that!

Of course it would have been better for you to discuss all that with your doctor before getting pregnant, but not everything goes according to plan!

I would say that you should call either your family doctor or your OB and have them see you or talk to you asap. I don't think you should be feeling they way you are feeling! Maybe they could prescribe a similar class B med that would help get you through without w/d.

    Good luck!!

  • Thanks..

It sucks, but I also want to make sure my little embryo is safe :)..I forgot to mention that I did call my sleep specialist to make sure about the Provigil, and they said that because it is a class C drug, to not take it at all..I'm assuming that if I'm having bad problems staying awake (uh, like 2 days ago, I actually fell asleep driving, and veered off the road a little - YIKES :(  ), then I could call them and see what they say..I did speak to a nurse practitioner that I work with yesterday, and she agree about no meds, but if I'm falling asleep at the wheel, then that's def not good either...I asked her about caffeine, and she said that is better than a class C drug, but use it in moderation, and mostly when I'm about to drive (I have an hour and 15 minute commute one way to work)..like a 1/4 cup before driving..As far as the Celexa, she is thinking that what I'm feeling isn't the palpitations from anxiety, but instead W/D's from stopping cold turkey..She also said I should have spoke to a dr prior to getting PG, but like you said, sometimes things don't go as planned..

I was also on 2 allergy meds that I stopped, and now my allergies are also wreaking havoc..I know I can take Benadryl, but doesn't help my sleep problem...

  • **hugs**

I hope that you can get some answers and a good solution soon!! That would not be easy. To deal with the normal worries with being pregnant, add all that to your plate.

Yea, benedryl is not good if you are sleepy, it knocks me out!

  • Thanks again..and **hugs** back - I needed that :) I'll take the benadryl at night, but it doesn't help during the day..Oh well, I hope I can figure this all out..I'll keep you updated..and I hope I don't feel this way for too much longer, but we'll have to see..

  • I hope you don't have to go through it much longer, but on the plus side, if they only want you to stop all meds during first trimester, then you have something to look forward to, and hopefully it will go quickly!

  • I am very sorry you're having to go through that!

I wish I could offer some insight, but I do hope that it gets better for you soon! Hang in there!

  • Thanks guys..I'm trying to hold in there..Now, though, I have a sinus infection..but I'm guessing that is ok, because I read that your immune system is lowered when your pregnant..it just sucks, because I don't think I can take anything..It's all good though, it will all be worth it in 9 months :)
