TTC After a Loss

Question on OPK's

Quick Question...

I  am just starting to TTCAL this month. It's the first month we have been able to since the m/c and I have been using OPK's.  I am usually pretty regular in my cycles and waited until I had a normal period after we lost the baby.  So, I should be having a regular cycle.  Well what's weird is that every ovulation test comes back negative.  I was supposed to start test last friday according to the kit.  I did. I test each morning and every time it has come up negative even though this is supposed to be my fertile week.  Has this happened to anyone? Am I using the test wrong? (I've never used them before this month). It's making me worried thinking that conceiving this month is impossible because no ovulation test came back positive! What do you guys think? Am I not ovulating because I had a miscarriage recently? Or am I having issues with the test?

Re: Question on OPK's

  • I haven't tried using them yet (maybe next month!) but I did read this helpful site that shanna82 posted on her siggy. It has some info on OPKs and lots of other good stuff. :) Good luck!

  • Could be your Oing at a different time.  I usually O'd 14-16th day, this month it was day 18 I think.  You just gotta keep taking them, and it could be you wont O this month - it happens sometimes - but def. check out Shellshockedmama's peas!  GL!

  • I would keep using them. I usually O around CD 13 (even after m/c) and this month, out of nowhere, it was a few days later. Also, you may have better luck with taking the test in the afternoon. Unlike HCG, LH is strongest around 2 PM. I would also recommend the internet cheapies and saving the kit tests for confirmation, so you can test a lot more.

    Good luck!

  • I JUST went through this. We waited for my period and so this is our first cycle after that. In the past I've O'ed between CD12 and CD16 but it looks like it will be CD 18. I've peed on so many OPKs this past week, I can't tell you.Embarrassed I was getting really frustrated but it just took longer than usual.

Are you using cheapies or digitals? Different brands of cheapies have different detection levels so it can be frustrating if you're using a brand that detects a higher level of LH because your tests won't start to show a line until much closer to your surge. I use cheapies until I think they're positive and then sometimes I "double check" with a digital.

You could also test in the evening or late afternoon each day, some surges aren't very long.

Good luck! Sending O vibes your way.

  • I would keep taking them. Are you charting also? If not, I would recommend it. It will help you know whether or not you ovulated since you can sometimes miss your surge or have a surge and not O.
