OBGYN Associates of Pittsburgh?

Hi all... I have been going to OBGYN Associates of Pittsburgh for about 15 years, but this is my first baby. The only doctors I have ever seen there are Dr. Shaheen and Dr. Hugo. I really liked seeing both of them.

I saw Dr. Kremser one time, but I didn't care for him too much. He was nice enough for the most part, but I thought he was kind of condescending too. I told him I was charting and his response was "Oh, you're not one of THOSE women are you? The kind that makes her husband come home in the middle of the day because she's ovulating?" I was really put off by that statement. It was inappropriate, and I don't like feeling even more awkward than I already do when I'm not wearing pants.

I guess what I'm asking is what kind of experience have you had with the other docs from this practice? Or, overall impressions? My understanding is that I will see all of them in rotation and won't get to choose who delivers our baby because it will depend on who is on duty at the time I go into labor.

Any experiences appreciated. Thanks.

    I love, love, love Dr. Shaheen.  She's all I've seen.  Three of my closest friends use their practice.  I think there's always going to be hit or miss with at least 1 in a group practice.  You are right, you do not get to choose who delivers your baby, it's who's on call.  I will say at my previous practice in NC, the one guy who we hated, ended up inducing me months later.  We were hesitant but it was the best choice ever.  They don't always have the best bed side manner.

    I love Dr. Goetz.  So far I have seen her and Dr. Kremser.  I wasn't too impressed with him either.  I agree with MooneyDee about always having 1in a group practice that's hit or miss.  Hopefully he's the only one!

    Good to know about Dr. Goetz! My first appointment is with her in two weeks because Dr. Shaheen was totally booked. Do they do an u/s at the first prenatal?

    I hope you like her as much as I do!  I had my first prenatal with her as well and she took a lot of time to answer questions and concerns my husband and I had.  You won't get an u/s at the first prenatal.  At mine she checked my cervix and answered questions.  It seems like their standard protocol is that you don't get an u/s until the anatomy scan unless you want to do the NT scan between 11-13 weeks.  We chose not to because our risk was very low for anything.  Good luck at your appointment!

    Thanks for the info! I must admit, I am so bummed out about the u/s... I had really hoped to get one. I really want to see the baby!

    Wow, no us?  I have my 1st appt on 9/27.  That's a bummer.  My old practice gave an us at 1st appt.

    Completely agreed. I have never had a prenatal before, but from my friends who have had babies and being on these boards I just assumed it was standard practice.

    Whoa, sorry about the duplicate posts! 

    Maybe it will be different for you.  The only thing I don't like about this office is that they don't have an u/s machine in their office so you have to make an appointment at Magee or one of the other u/s locations.  I actually got to have one at around 10 weeks due to some bleeding.  My next one will be in 4 weeks for the anatomy scan.  I can't wait!

    Which office do you go to? My normal visits are always in the building across the street from Magee.

    They rotated me through all the doctors. I have to say I had good experiences with them all. I saw Dr Hazel and Dr Thomas the most. Dr Hazel ended up delivering my baby. I have nothing but great things to say about her. She is professional very friendly and caring.

    I am really gad to hear that you had such a good experience with all of the docs. It gives me hope that I will like them all too.

     I have been going to the office across the street from Magee as well. 

    I am glad to hear Dr. Thomas and Dr. Hazel were very well liked.  My next appointment is with Dr. Thomas so I guess I can expect a better visit than I had with Dr. Kremser!

    I love OBGYN Associates of Pittsburgh!!!  I transferred to them from another practice and was just amazed with the care they gave me and DH! I rotated trough all of them and ended up having Dr. Goetz deliver my son!  My whole experience from start to finish was great... although I do NOT totally disagree about Dr. Kremser!  He is a bit more blunt then I would have liked... told me basically to stop eating carbs because I had gained too much weight (it was over christmas!!!)!!!!  But other then that, I really enjoyed all the drs. 

    The nurses there are wonderful too!   Kathy was there to support me through my whole pregnancy and it was wonderful!  She even called to check up on me after I had my son!

    Good experience overall!!!
