2nd Trimester

fell down the stairs

going down too fast and lots of pain...

lower back is killing me and i keep on getting little random spasms all over my uterus. I know that falls in the bg. of second trimester wont hurt the baby (i hope) but I'm just going to throw it out there as stupid as i may sound, i'm scared.

Re: fell down the stairs

  • Well I would call your OB or go in because if your feeling that way after falling down the stairs you should at least get a dr's opinion.

  • I would call the doctor or the nurse's hotline. Although it is highly likely that the baby is just fine, it is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck. Hope you feel better!
  • I hope you are ok--a call to the doc never hurts. My SIL fell at 8 months pregnant down a whole flight of stairs and everything was ok with her LO. He's a healthy, amazing 6 year old.
  • even if the baby is ok, check to make sure you are ok, a fall down the stairs doesn't do a whole lot for a pregnant woman either.

  • I'd call you doctor's office. Like my MW said, "It only takes 2 minutes to be reassured."

PS- I live in Luzerne!! That's awesome that you're so close. We should be friends! Big Smile

How did you land?  Butt, stomach, knees?

It makes a difference. If you landed on your butt or knees or something, you're looking at probably not much more than a slight jiggling.  If you landed on your belly, I'd go ahead and call just to be sure, but they will probably tell you if you're not bleeding, or cramping, you're fine.

  • If you're having spasms in your uterus, definitely call your doctor's after hours line and see what the on-call doc wants you to do.  If your doctor doesn't have one, I would go to the ER.

Yes, most of the time, falls aren't that bad for the baby because you have lots of cushioning.  But if you are in pain now, and you're getting spasms in your uterus, it might be wise to get checked out.

  • I'd go to the hospital

  • I would call your dr. just to let them know and see what they want you to do.  When I was around 20wks with dd I fell down some stairs at work.  I landed on my butt, but was scared sh!tless.  I called my dr, and she said to go to L&D to be monitored, just to be safe.  They kept me there several hours, hooked me up to the machines and monitored my heartbeat as well as the baby's.  They also did an u/s to check on dd.  Everything turned out just fine, and I'm sure your lo is still safe & sound.  But it's always good to play it safe and call your dr.  GL!

  • thanks for all the responses, I have an appt. on the 2nd with my OB but when I called she didn't seem to worried. I forgot who mentioned it but she asked if i was bleeding, and when I said "no" she kinda made it seem like it made the difference in the world. I landed on my stomach, but oddly enough it's my lower back that hurts. Well asides from a couple of bruises I'm fine, I keep on looking up the baby's heart on the doppler and it's still beating strong. So, again thanks for all the advice. You ladies really are great :)
