darn re: new apartment

We are moving into a new apartment many miles/states away. I got to visit it a month ago. It was previously occupied by a couple with a baby, and they had painted the walls yellow and had these little sticker decal things set up in the room. It was very cute and gender neutral--just what we wanted. I figured, "score, now I don't need to 'set up a nursery'" which was something I didn't want to have to do. It's just not the type of thing that I find fun even though I like a positive end result.

I thought we had done a pretty good job communicating to them that we didn't want them to change it back to neutral (the landlord and tenant knew we were pregnant and asked). But I guess not, or they forgot. My mom went to visit the place (she lives in the area) and noticed that they've taken down the decoration and painted the room neutral/white. I'm disappointed. In all honesty I truly doubt I will put in effort to decorate this place. We don't even know how long we'll be living there. So I think the baby will have a boring room. I was looking forward to the fact that someone had done it for me. But now it's gone. :-(

  • that's kinda lame and very strange that they'd do that if you requested they leave it!  waste of their time and money.  I wonder if it's the sort of thing where they *have* to have it a certain way when your lease starts so they can prove you did/didn't maintain it properly when you leave.  I dunno.  you should totally paint it, tho!  get a couple of friends or enlist your moms help, maybe, and for a few bucks and a couple hours you can have a nice colorful very unboring room :)

  • I'm sorry they did that, but as the other girls are saying, you can still make it fun! Even if you don't want to paint the walls, there are still lots of things you can do. I once lived in an apartment where you weren't allowed to paint, so I found a really cool cloth tapestry and hung it in the center of one wall. You can also find all kinds of awesome vinyl decals on etsy.com that won't mess up the wall when you remove them. You can even make your own inexpensive wall art by buying some blank canvases from JoAnn's or Michael's and paint them either with designs or in varying hues of a certain color. I did a room where I had 9 square canvases and painted them varying hues of green (my fave color). Then, I just measured out a grid on the wall and hung them up! Hopefully that all made sense. Best of luck in whatever you decide. :)
