Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Let's talk baby carriers

I have a Moby but I am in need of one with better support for my back to use for longer periods of time. I want one that is versatile and that I can wear Cora inward facing, front facing and on my back. I figure a more structured baby carrier would give me more back support than a wrap, but I have no idea.

I've looked at Pikkolo and Ergo and like them both from what I've read, but don't really see the difference between them, so if you have anything to offer on that it would be appreciated.

Thanks mamas!

    Hiiii!!!! How are you, mama?

  • I'm great! I feel like I don't see you around these parts very often. How are YOU!?

  • Try the Beco Gemini. I have the Beco Butterfly and I love it. But LO cannot face forward in the Butterfly.

I'm good! I really limit my time on here now. Partly because I have an active little girl who always need mommy within arms reach to avoid any danger, but also there's been a crazy amount of drama on here and I just don't want to be any part of it. Y'know?

Aside from all that though - life with Cora is just amazing. She's doing pretty good right now health-wise too, so that's wonderful!

  • Love mine it is the

and my LO loves it too. And the back is a straight clasp and the straps don't cross easy on and off. Good luck.

  • We just got a pikkolo this week.  So far, so good.  Had I not been in such a hurry to order something, I might have considered a Beco Butterfly.  They are pretty similar but the Pikkolo gets slightly better reviews here:

I like that with the Pikkolo I can wear him on the front facing in or out, on my back or on my hip.  I like that the shoulder straps can either be crossed in back or worn backpack style.  It's a bit trickier to get on than a Bjorn, but obviously more comfy since there is a waist belt.

  • Ah - FTR, you can't face LO out in the Ergo.

  • Another review site - this one possibly a bit biased based on what the site carries, but good info nonetheless:

  • Another vote for the Beco Gemini.

BTW Hi Cinderellabella....I pray every day for Cora's heart

  • I have a woven wrap which I love. It's not stretchy like a moby and so is much more supportive.

I like the carries that tie around my waist because it spreads the weight really well.

I have a hoppediz which I like, but there is a wealth of woven wraps out there to suit taste, climate etc.

  • I have a stretchy wrap, a woven, and a couple of ring slings, but by far my favorite carrier is the Pikkolo.  So easy to use and really versatile.  If I had known that to begin with, I wouldn't have wasted so much money on the other carriers.

  • Another vote for Beco here.
  • I have the Beco butterfly II and I love it.
  • My sister has a pikkolo so she let me try it and it made my back ache.  I got an ergo and don't have that problem (I think it's because the weight is distributed lower).  If you google there are places you can buy the ergo online with free returns within 90 days so you can really try it out well.  I'd recommend looking for similar places for whatever you buy - they're too expensive not to get your money's worth!  GL!

  • I have an ergo and a hot sling but my sis has a mei tai baby hawk and I LOVE it! I say go for the baby hawk and out of all the carriers mentioned it is the cheapest by far!
  • I also love my BabyHawk, but DH prefers the Ergo so if your DH will baby wear, that's something to consider.  Neither allows forward-facing  front carries, though (which, IMO, is good so LO doesn't get overstimulated.)

Is there a baby wearing group near you?  They usually have a lending library so you can try before you buy.

I agree! I have a baby hawk and LOVE it.  You can wear in almost any position.  They also have the ohsnap! now too... it snaps around you and is similar to a becco, and you can get them custom ordered with your own fabric selections!
