Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Your 11 month nap schedule

My daughter has been taking longer than normal to fall asleep for her morning nap and I was wondering if this meant she's ready to just go to one nap? It used to take her 10-15 minutes to fall asleep but the last few days it's taken 30-40 minutes. I feel so bad watching her lay there for that long but I'm not sure if she needs the sleep or not??? Help!

Re: Your 11 month nap schedule

  • My Ds had this same problem and I figured out that it wasn't that he needed to drop the nap, it was just that it was a little too early and I had to bump it back maybe 30 minutes.  He wakes up in the morning around 6:30 and he used to take his first nap around 8:15.  Now I've changed it to more like 8:45 or 9 and he falls asleep a lot quicker.  His second nap hasn't changed much.  He still goes down around 1 or 1:15.

  • We've never done a schedule, always just routine. She used to nap about 2 hrs after getting up. Now its 3-4. She still takes 3 naps a day usually, unless she gets 2 really good ones. They are normally 1-2 hrs long.

same here except we have been taking 2 naps a day since 7 months old.  just watch for the sleep ques... your LO may be shifting in prep of dropping one or may be due to teething, new milestones etc.  Following their lead and they'll let you know when a nap is needed.

The start of our naps has shifted 30-45 minutes later the past week but she still needs the 2.  I thing the 2nd nap is getting to be just a catnap and may drop it in a month or so... we'll see.

    wakes around 7-7:30
nap at 11:30ish  again at 4ish
    bed at 8:30

  • We are pretty close to 11 months so I'll answer.

DS wakes up around 7.  He takes his bottle in bed and goes back to sleep with my until 9-9:30.

He takes his nap around 1:30-2pm and goes to sleep for the night around 8-8:30.  He just dropped his morning nap.

  • I don't get it. Are you just plunking her in bed at a specific time? We don't use the clock to decide when our son naps. We watch for sleepy cues and then put him down. That means some days 1 nap, some days 2, and the time varies but it works best for him.

No, I don't go by a specific time but since she was about 7 months old we would put her down about 1 1/2 to 2 hours after she wakes up for her morning nap and then about 3 to 4 hours after she wakes up for her afternoon nap. It's always worked great, she would always fall asleep within about 10 minutes with no fuss at all. Before I started this I waited for sleepy cues but by that time it was too late, she was overly tired, and it was much harder to get her to sleep. As she's grown I've pushed back the awake time to be longer.

Anyways, maybe I'll just push it back another 30 minutes or so and see how that works. Thanks for the help ladies!

Our day looks a lot like this. DD gets up at about 7am for a bottle and goes back to sleep until about 9:30am. Then she has one nap when she's tired- the usual time is around 2pm (for 1.5 - 2 hours). She goes to bed at 9pm and STTN.
