I suck at BWing

I have a moby-type wrap, never been able to get it tight enough, even when the straps are tight, the panel is loose, and DS slips. I also have the Infantino mei tai, which also seems to get loose. I'm debating on getting a Beco, but I worry about it too, I've already "wasted" $90 on carriers I can't use properly, but a part of me thinks you get what you pay for, and maybe these carriers just aren't as good, KWIM? I also have not wore him like I've wanted too (maybe 3 times total) and he's almost 3 months old! So I really want to get to where I'm wearing him more. Do you think I'm just clueless when it comes to wrapping? (everyone says the moby takes practice, I've literally tried 15+ times & it never gets better) and even the Infantino hurt my shoulders a little. Or should I try a better quality carrier, like the Beco?

Re: I suck at BWing

  • I think finding a style of carrier that works for you is the toughest part.I hae a Moby and I like it, but it gets hot and takes too long to put on. I realized quickly I wasn't a "wrapper" so then I tried a soft structured carrier, a Belle, and it wasn't comfortable, so then I tried a Beco and success! I have a Gemini and I LOVE it. So, it may not be the quality, but more the style, that's going to be a winner, kwim? It sounds like from what you said you may be a soft-structure-carrier-type-of-girl and if so, then yes- I highly suggest the Beco. For me it was worth every penny. On granolababies.com you can rent carriers, so that be helpful for you too!

  • I get what you mean about time going by "he's almost 3 months old!" and it seems like you've wasted that time as well. But let me tell ya... there's a lot of baby wearing time left. Especially if you plan on having any more kids.

I was never a big wrap fan (I had a stretchy moby-like wrap) and then I got a mei tai which I liked but hurt my shoulders (the straps weren't padded at all).

I did love my ring sling with DD for her first year, but after 20lbs or so it got harder on my back to wear for long times and DS hit 20lb before 6mo!

Anyway, I got an ergo with DS and have no regrets. It's got a lot more padding than my mei tai so it doesn't hurt my shoulders. I will say that it hurt my back at first, but I just needed to make some adjustments and figure it out - now it doesn't hurt. It's also easy enough that DH is willing to wear it. He would wear the mei tai, but I had to put it on him. The ergo he can do by himself which is nice.

So I say go for the structured carrier!

  • Thank you both!

Now I don't know what to get, the Beco or Ergo! I thought the Ergo was a lot more $, but they are the same price...off to do more research!

Check out my post about this about the Beco Gemini (I got it!). Its Brilliant!!

  • I love my Ergo.  DS was never a big fan of the moby - he's just not a "cuddler".  He loves to be held but doesn't like to be rocked or really snuggle up on you in general.  So the moby wasn't really a good fit for him.  The Ergo, on the other hand, lets him be upright, see what's going one & not be held too close.

  • There are a ton of choices out there!  I really really recommend either finding a local BWing group to borrow some from or renting them from someplace like www.paxbaby.com.  Jillian is a GENIUS with helping you figure out what will work for you (I've bought three carriers from her so far, and she's been fabulous every time!) and she has a great return policy as well!  But since not every carrier works with every body type, it's nice to be able to try them out so that you're not having to waste more $$.  Smile
  • I have to use buckle carriers. I have arthritis and cannot tie anything tight enough to feel secure. I have a Beco Butterfly and I just love it.
