1st Trimester

Flame me, please

I have become that neurotic, paranoid 1st trier I always found incredibly annoying.  But after a c/p last month and spotting a few days ago, I have officially become insane.

1. I keep POAS every morning and then lining the tests up to see if the lines are getting darker, as if that will tell me anything.

2. Every time I pee, I not only check the TP but squint at it and turn it around for the light to catch it at different angles and analyze exactly what hue we are talking about here.

3. About once an hour I sit around and worry if I am having enough symptoms and if they seem like more or less than the day before or even the hour before.

And I'm only like 4w2d.  Yeah.

  • It's so hard - but you have to try your best to relax and enjoy!  Btw, I'm a chronic toilet paper checker!

  • 1.  I POASd until just under 6 weeks.  At which point two things happened...  I realized that at that point I had so much HCG in my system, it would not really show me anything other than that I had HCG in my system and...  H took the rest of my sticks away.

    2.  I am almost to the 2nd tri and still check. Though, I have been spotting on and off since 5 weeks 2 days.  Fun times.

    3.  I did that until my sonogram during week 9 and I saw a healthy baby in there.  You can't help but worry, no matter what you went through to get where you are.  I think of it as us being mothers.

    So...  yea....  no flaming here.

  • I'd love to tell you, you are being crazy and to knock it off..... but, I know we are all in that same boat. The uncertanty of first tri. Me for sure!!! You know, as well as I, that this is only the begining of the worry. It will continue until the day we die Wink Just try and relax as much as possible and realize that this is out of your control. Stay hydrated and well rested {easier said then done with a LO at home}. But, most important, know you are not alone!

  • Hang in there iris. I am right there with ya. I toilet paper check and my breasts are less sore now and my first couple of days of upset stomach are gone. I don't think I will calm down until I see a hb, and then, I will worry about other things.

  • I had a CP the cycle before this BFP so I understand the nerves. I still inspect the TP religiously and I took 9....yes 9 tests to see the line progression. ;) If it makes you feel better I say do it!

  • Congrats on your BFP!  I must have missed your announcement on TTGP.

And no flames from me...I did all of the things you did for sure.  I think I peed on a stick every day from my BFP (3w5d) until I was like 6.5 weeks.   It's hard to relax, I know.  Especially after a loss and spotting.

  • I think that's normal.  I had a m/c in Feb so I'm really paranoid too.  I check the TP every time I'm in the bathroom and worry a lot.  Hang in there sweetie.

  • Hi Iris! Good to see you here! And if you're crazy, we all are. I still check TP, but around six weeks, I stopped doing it in the middle of the night -- or running to the bathroom to check between pees. Hang in there!

  • DH insists on shopping with me now, so that I don't buy more HPT's....I look at TP every single time I use the restroom, and I panic if my boobs aren't as tender as I think they should be.  Nope, we can't flame ya! Right Hug
  • I'm with you!  I check my TP constantly and freak out when my symptoms go away temporarily (as though I want to be nauseous 24/7).

    Good luck and CONGRATS!

  • The only advice I can give you is to try to remind yourself that the pregnancy is out of your control.  You can eat good foods, rest and take a vitamin - that's all you can control.  When you finally surrender your control of the pregnancy to something else - God, fate, whatever - you'll feel much better.

    Hang in there, Iris.

  • tp checker here too.  and my whole peeing on a stick thing.. well, that's a whole other obsession that i've recently confessed to the bump.Embarrassed

  • After so long TTC and checking cervix location, CM, taking OPKs, etc. it's second nature for my bathroom breaks to be a science experiment. Still, try to relax. Also, stop with the HPT- at this point if something went wrong it would show up positive for a bit anyways.

Congrats on your BFP-  we're all in the same boat!

  • Can you call and ask your ob's office if you can come in to have beta levels drawn?  Tell them you are concerned since you had a bit of spotting and because of your chemical pregnancy last time.  I'm sure they will be sympathetic.

I had 2 sets of betas done the other week because of my m/c back in March and it did help ease my mind a bit.

  • I would still be peeing on sticks if DH didn't take them away. I still had 9 left to pee on (after previously peeing on 24 - yes, i have a problem).

TP gets checked every time I go to the bathroom still. In fact, sometimes I make trips to the bathroom JUST to check the TP.

My symptoms totally disappeared (except for 2 and they are ambiguous) at 10 weeks so I have spent the last 2 weeks in complete over analyzing mode.

You, my dear, are definitely not alone.

  • My first pregnancy was a blighted ovum, so the second time around I was exactly the same way.  The second pregnancy was over a year later, so I was constantly trying to remember, "Did I make it this far last time?  How far along was I when I started bleeding?"  I couldn't trust it at all until I was sure that I was farther along than the first time.  I felt somewhat better after the first u/s, and was amazed when the first tri screening all came back ok.  It was hard to shake the feeling that something could go wrong at any moment.  I feel that way about this one, too, but not quite to the same extent.
  • No flames here as I am a constant TP checker as well.

  • Yup, you are not alone.

I just had an u/s on Monday and today I'm like, "I wonder if I'm pregnant."

Seriously, it's a disease. We need to stop the maddness!

  • I was so paranoid during my 1st trimester I was driving my husband nuts. I took at least 6 pregnancy tests 3 digital and 3 regular just to make sure I was still pregnant. I look up every horror story online which made it worse because i can be somewhat of a hypochondriac and I still even though im always 12 weeks along check TP for anything. So i'd say just relax and enjoy your pregnancy it sucks to worry all the time.

  • I must have missed your BFP announcement (too many boards to keep up with)! Congrats! I totally understand your paranoia, and I have a batch of internet cheapie tests, too, so I would be POAS all the time if I got a BFP.

  • Pee....Wipe......Immediately check TP....Turn it side to side and inspect for any sign of pink/brown at all...Repeat, wipe, check, just to be sure  = Me in the bathroom.

    Your are NOT alone :)

  • I still check my tp.  I had a mc last year and am trying my hardest not to be too paranoid this time around but I still find myself checking.
