Does your breastfed gassy baby

ever unlatch and scream while you're feeding them?  Yesterday was awful.  It was the first time in 5 weeks I wanted to stop breastfeeding.  Every 30 seconds he would push himself off screaming bloody murder.  I never drink milk, I hardly eat any other dairy and he gets Mylicon drops.  I can't wait until his gas is better.  Even if he is very gassy he's very easy to calm so sometimes I wonder if the screaming and unlatching is due to something else.

Re: Does your breastfed gassy baby

  • Logan does it once in a while, but it's usually when he's really tired.  For us it's because my let down is so fast, so the milk comes out too quickly for him when he's tired.  He's gotten used to it for the most part but sometimes it still bothers him.

  • Mine was doing the exact same thing and turned out to be reflux.
  • My little guy has started doing that at night. The pedi said it was probably because my supply is so low at night, he get frustrated from sucking and not getting anything.

yes! I totally feel your pain! DS is only 2 1/2 weeks so I just figured out it was gas. I was so frustrated last night I was practically in tears. I have just started use mylicon so we will see how that works. I am going to try and give it at bed time. We usually go 30-40 minutes of him getting upset then acting like he is starving so I offer the breast but then he sceams again until he poops of passes gas. . . I hope it gets better too. I haven't changed my diet but if this continues I may...GL

  • LOL, yes! He acts like I never feed him, getting all huffy and puffy about eating, then uses his little fists to push off me, roots like crazy and screams bloody murder while I'm frantically trying toput my boob back in his mouth. I found that taking that exact time to burp him (while he is screaming) usually gets a burp right away and a happier baby back on the boob. I have extremely powerful let down-- shoots milk out in three different sprays that hit the pillow, chair, baby, anything within a foot of us. I think he chokes on it and ends up swallowing air. I'm trying to pump for 2 minutes before feeding him to reduce this and it seems to work. He gets more hindmilk instead of the watery milk.
