TTC After a Loss

Calling all of you with special powers to look at my ute! {ovulation pain/cysts mentioned}

I've never had ovulation pain before, so can someone enlighten me on what it's like? Is ovulation pain similar to a cyst pain?

Both yesterday and today every once in awhile i get a sharp stabbing pain on one side of my "stomach" area. It's at about the same line as my belly button, and about a hand length to the right. Now, i don't think I am ovulating. But. (And I know you're not doctors and can't see my ovaries) But, do you think this might be a cyst? Or just some random pain?

Those who have cysts, does it hurt at any time or just during ovulation time?

ETA: I have a doctors appointment on Tuesday to go over my long cycles, so i'll def. mention this random pain.

  • ::puts on ute-vision goggles::

    I don't have cysts, so I can't compare, but I get ovulation pain every cycle. It's usually on one side or the other a few inches inside my hip. Sometimes it's a sudden pain, other times it's a dull, constant pain. It always corresponds with other signs of ovulation, though.

    It sounds like the pain you're describing may be located higher than OP. Definitely something to ask your doctor about.

    Sorry my ute-vision goggle aren't very clear. Sad

  • This is only on the one side, which makes me a little nervous. And it's a little above my hip, but not much. My belly button is maybe only an inch or two above my hip. I'll definitely have to ask.

    Thanks for trying with the goggles jms!

  • I have o pain, but it is more like a dull pulling pain on one side to me.  Your appendix is on the right side-so if it continues you might want to get checked out sooner than tuesday. hope it goes away soon!

  • What you described and the placement is what my O pain has felt like when I've had it.

  • I wish I could offer some good advice on that one...I tend to get "mystery pains", so I can't really distinguish between my mystery pain and ovulation pain....  I hope Tuesday brings you answers!

  • I haven't ever noticed O pain, but I do have cysts so I can tell you about them (hopefully you can rule them out).  I get just one cyst at a time so its very different from anyone that migh have PCOS.

    They hurt and cramp like AF but only on one side around the area you are describing.  Sometimes I get mid-cycle bleeding/spotting with them.  They only hurt when I ovulate although sometime the pain lasts 3-4 days (usually when the cyst gets ready to rupture).  They also make my periods more painful.  I'll be fine for a few months, and then one will develop again.

    If it is a cyst the good news is it's pretty much nothing to worry about.  In most cases there are 2 treatments--going on the pill (did not help me), or wait and see.  If it's a cyst the doctor can give you somethinng better than motrin to take when you have pain.  Otherwise, you just have to deal with it, so its really nothing worth worrying about.

  • My O pains are much lower than that.  They are usually just a little above where my leg joins into my hip.  Mine is a more constant dull pain which can be more intense on some days than others, but it's never a random shooting pain.

    I'm sure everyone is different though and I hope it means you are going to O soon!

  • For me, O pain feels just like a cyst but a cyst hurts all the time until it goes away. However cysts for me at least, usually feels the same. I had a big one this month and when I went to the RE the U/S tech said have you had pulling or pinching pain on your right side? I said no, it just HURTS. She said you have a HUGE cyst measured at 36.4 mm. I hope it helps.
