Re: HSG testing ?

  • I had one last october.  Honestly, the painful part was the catheter, but I blame the nurse because I've had others that don't hurt at all.  I didn't feel the dye part at all and I had no pain after it, but I know that is different for everyone.  GL!

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I'm having one in a couple weeks also.  A friend of mine had one done today and said it was nothing.  She said it didn't hurt at all and was over pretty quickly.  She compared it to having a pap.  I hope ours are that easy!

  • I had one about a year ago and it wasn't painful for me, but there are people here who did have some pain.  I took 3 advil about 45 minutes before it and I think that helped.  The procedure is uncomfortable, but it's very quick so if you do have pain it will be over very fast.  It's actually pretty cool to watch the dye on the screen.  They will probably give you a pad when you are done, but I would bring one just in case since you might have a little spotting and the dye will leak out.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  I hope it goes well for you.

  • I just had one on Tuesday.  I would Google it if you have a chance so you are prepared for what the procedure is like---it's too much to type out for me right now Smile

I didn't have any pain or cramping at all, but I know that most women do.  I took 800 mg of advil about a half hour before, so maybe that helped.  Also, bring your own pantyliner or pad for afterward because they like to give you basically a diaper.

GL and let us know how it went!

  • i had one in jan- and have to say it was fairly uncomfortable- my cervix wasnt very compliant so they had to *pin* it open- i never have cramps when i have AF, usually just back pain, so the cramping was was fairly uncomfortable- if you have cramps with af or if you had a natural m/c it probably wont be so bad (i had a d&c so didnt really have too much cramp wise with the m/c either) just take some motrin before you go (like an hour before hand) and take a think pad (they give you the OB ones which make you feel like you are wearing a diaper) the good news is, a good number of women conceive within the few months following HSG as if there is any blockage etc in the tubes it clears it (so say the OB gods, and in fact after 18mos of ttc and starting IF stuff, conceived naturally following HSG) good luck :)
