my daughter is 4.5 months old and her pedi gave us the go ahead to start giving her rice cereal. We have tried for the past week to spoon feed it to her, even mixing in very small amounts of stage 1 (4 month appropriate) applesauce and bananas. She is not having it but she needs something more than just BM according to the pedi (since she is the size of an average 6 month old). I saw some playtex nipples that are used for cereal. If I were to use rice cereal in the bottle with these nipples how much cereal do I use to how much BM? I know it has to be thin enough to fit through the nipple. Any suggestions?
Re: rice cereal in a bottle? Please help!
Yeah, we were told absolutly NO food of any kind in her bottle. It took us about a week to get any realy amount of food in her tummy with the spoon. We ended up having to make it a little thicker so she could actually use her tongue to move it around.
We also had to switch to oatmeal mixed with 3/4 water:1/4 juice. It helps keep her unconstipated.
Just keep trying the spoon, with different textures.
and just so you know, the aap recommends bf babies be ebf till 6 months. No cereal or solids until then.
