Question for working moms

When do you plan on telling your work that you're pregnant?  I was thinking of waiting until at least 2nd tri or until I'm showing but I work in a very small office and I'm afraid they're gonna be wondering since I'll be having frequent doctor's appointments.

Re: Question for working moms

  • I've always appeared pregnant, because I have my beloved food belly, so I probably will not show for a while. I'll be notifying my employer probably around week 20-24, or when I "pop." I was reading WTEWYE in my car waiting for the office to open this morning and my manager saw me. I told her before I entertained DH's dreams of fatherhood, I needed to be down with the information. She believed me.

  • It all depends on how well my body tolerates being pg.  If I am having lots of ms, etc, I will tell my boss so he doesn't think I am being a slacker.  We have worked together for 6 years so he will understand.

  • I was going to wait until second trimenster as well, about 12 weeks should be good. You just want to pass the most critical point of pregnancy before the word gets out and everyone knows, you know?!

  • I am waiting at least 12 weeks, but likely will wait until I think I am showing enough that others can tell.  Either way, when I tell they will still have plenty of time to plan for my absence.

  • Once I start to need frequent dr appts (monthly or more) or when I start to have bad morning sickness I will tell my boss only, just so she knows it's medical and not me blowing off work. I won't tell the rest of my co-workers until we tell the rest of the world (still haven't figured that out).

  • I'm good friends with my boss, so I'll probably tell her around 10 weeks. I'll wait until I'm showing before I tell anyone else at work.
  • Because I am a wine consultant, and it's no big deal to see me hauling around a few cases of wine every day, I had to spill the beans to my employers and co-workers very early. So far they have all been very helpful and understanding...seeing as how I'm a glorified wine stocker now.

Though, I am about to go freelance with the consulting as soon as I find an administrative position, I will probably tell my new employer when I am into my second tri. The employment move isn't preferred, but I just can't do a 14 hour day while pregnant, nor with an infant.

  • I just told mine yesterday. I work in a small office and if I tell one person then everyone knows. So of course I had to tell one person. Plus my boss was giving me a hard time about my first visit. I had to tell him what was up. He was totally cool with it once he knew. Though it really shouldn't have to be that way.
  • I told everyone today at our back to school meeting!!!

Several people asked me what I was having, and I said, "um, a baby"!haha

I guess no one is used to people spilling the beans so early!

  • Well since I work at the front desk of an office I had to tell my boss and direct co-worker, they need to know why Im running to the potty so much more than normal or why Im not up here when I ran to go puke! I dont plan on telling anyone else until the 2nd trimester, which may be hard to keep quiet since I am up front and looking like poop and having ginger ale and crackers everyday can be a dead giveaway. But Im going to try!

  • I'm sure they will figure it out before this, but I plan to tell them at 12 weeks.
  • Yeah I think I will tell them once I realize I am showing or until someone asks me about it.
  • I usually tell my partners at around 12 weeks. So far I haven't shown much before 15 wks, and after one m/c I'm cautious about when we start sharing the news. But my partners need time to rearrange our call schedule for when I'm gone so I don't wait too long. After 4 kids it's not like they're going to be surprised. :)
