Baby shower timing...

I'm due January 14, 2011. Originally I thought it would be good to have the shower the Saturday before Thanksgiving, however, my husband thinks we should do it the first week in December. I'll be 32 or 34 weeks respectively and I'm worried that I'm not leaving enough time for holiday stuff and our own last minute shopping, not to mention I'll probably be exhausted. When should I tell my sister/best friend to plan it?

I think you should consider the holiday schedules of your sister and your guests. Let your sister schedule it for whenever works best for her. I think most of the women on this board are having theirs in Oct/Nov. to avoid the Holidays all together.

I'm having mine the first weekend in December...so weekend after Thanksgiving. It's going to suck for some people who want to come and will be in town Thanksgiving weekend...but I won't be, so they can't have a shower without me

Mine is being planned for mid November. We were definitely concerned with the holidays and all of my friends & families plans. It's a super busy time of year as is.

Ideally I'd like to have my shower a little closer to my due date (Jan 25), but our babies picked a busy time of year to show their faces!

I'm due Jan 23rd, and my shower is planned for Dec 11th. At first I wasn't a fan of having it so close to Christmas, but I currently live in New Orleans and am not moving back to Jersey (which is where the shower is being thrown) until Thanksgiving weekend. The first weekend in Dec is my baby cousins big 1st birthday so that was off limits and there was no way I was doing it only 1 week before Christmas or anytime in January. I would try to coordinate with your sister and see what works better for you both. GL.

I'm due January 22nd. We were originally going to do late October, but the location we want isn't available until November 13th, so that's what we are doing. I definitely wanted it before all the holiday craziness. We are seriously busy starting with Thanksgiving and it doesn't stop until the New Year. We typically have at least one family party each weekend during that time.

I'm due on the 13th, and am having mine on the 13th of November. But I think the first weekend in Dec will still be fine.

That's the same day I'm doing. My friends BEGGED me to not have it near the holidays.

I'm due January 7th and one family shower is being planned for late September (which I feel is really early) and another family shower for October 11th. I felt a little weird about them being so early, but we're trying to accomodate out of town relatives who will be in town. I do think it's good to avoid the holidays if you can because people will be busy, but also because people will be trying to buy holiday gifts.

I'm due Jan. 11, and having mine November 13. It's so hard after that... the 20th we're driving up to Dallas to watch the Cowboys - Lions game, the following weekend is Thanksgiving and my parents are leaving for Hawaii... the weekend after that is the weekend before my finals, the weekend of December 11 is my graduation, and I refuse to do it the weekend before Christmas or any time after that because it's too close. I agree with pp, you should let your sister pick the date that's easier for her.

I am having two, since my family and DH's family don't live in the same state (but only about an hour away), and my MIL put up a stink about her fam driving too far (grrr, MILs!!!!). Anyway, my side of the family is hosting a shower for me on 10/16, and my MIL and SILs are hosting a shower for me for their side of the family on 11/6. The 10/16 definitely seems a little early, but I am actually excited about how early it is--I won't feel ginormous yet (hopefully)!!! We did it this way because my #1 (and only) request was just that we avoid the craziness of the holidays--I didn't want to burden my guests.

I'm due January 5th and my shower will be the Saturday after Thanksgiving. My sister lives in DC, but will be home in Chicago for the holiday, so that is how we picked the day.

I am having three. My coworkers are throwing one Oct 23 to avoid the holidays all together. My MIL is throwing mine Nov 13, H's cousin is getting married the day before, so family will be in town, My mom is throwing another one the saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, since my sister will be in town! But all of the shower planners wanted to stay far away from christmas! I think the first weekend in December is fine but definately go with the date that your sister is comfortable with.
