So I have been lucky enough to stay at home for the past 4 months with my DS. Now he is in daycare and I started to realize something. He didn't nap at all, and was very fussy. My DH stayed with him today and he cried all day and wouldn't nap (and my DH is very involved with him on a daily basis). Everyone who has babysat for him says they can't get him to nap and he is fussy. But when I was with him all summer he was fine, slept well and was happy.
So it makes me wonder, did I do something wrong? I don't do anything out of the ordinary for parenting, anyone should be able to come in and care for him. He is such a laid back kid usually. I don't know why he's not like that for others.
Re: Have I created a monster??
Also, you MIGHT be worrying for nothing. If he's only been there a week, he might just need to adjust to a change in his routine.
My Liam won't sleep well at daycare, because he is a tummy sleeper and they refuse to let him sleep on his tummy
I expect him to have issues at daycare. I was not expecting him to be like that with DH today. He knows the routine and followed it exactly. I think people just don't look for his sleep cues.
I do leave explicit directions, but they never get followed just as I leave them. Maybe if they were their time spent with him would be more pleasant...
I was letting him nap in his bouncy chair, it was the only place he'd sleep for a while. But about a month before daycare I started transitioning him to naps in the pnp, which he would be sleeping in there. He will sleep in it just fine.
I think other people aren't as patient with him in looking for the sleep cues and working to put him down. You can't just lay him down when he starts to get fussy, its too late then. I watch for him to slow down and look sleepy. Then I help him get comfy and spend time with him for a few minutes. I can then lay him down drowsy but awake.
