My bf who had twins last year used cocoa butter in the morning and bio oil at night and has absolutely no stretch marks so that is the regiment I have been following. I know its really a genetic thing but just in case I can prevent the appearance of them on the surface- or whatever- I'm sure as heck gonna try!
BFP 4/22/09, Missed M/C on 6/9, D & C on 6/11 @ 11wks- trisomy 16
BFP 11/19/09 -CP 11/23/09
BFP 1/16/2010- m/c 1/29/2010, low progesterone
BFP 6/13/2010 = twins!!!

i had cream and all kinds of stuff slathered on my stomach all pregnancy...and I didn't have a stretchmark...until I walked out of the hospital and had a ton all over. I was allergic to cocoa butter..which I found out many people actually are...and they think its the stretch marks that are itchy. so be careful I think either would be fine to try.
I agree with not just saying "oh well, it's genetic!" even though many people have insisted to me that it is!
Water, bio oil, emolient lotions, vitamin E and Omega 3's will all help to potentially reduce/combat the severity of them. It's no secret that North American diets are significantly lacking and we see the effects in our skin's condition and how it ages!
I've been doing Palmer's cocoa butter in the morning and Burt's Bees Belly Balm. A friend of mine gave me some and it's wonderful! I have dry skin, so I'm doing all that I can!
it's based on genetics not what you use, although using lotions/staying hyrdated can help the severity of them.
This is how I understand it as well. I think it's fine to use whatever lotion or cream you like best -- especially for the itchiness! -- but don't get sucked in by the claims on all the super-expensive crap on the maternity store shelves.
