I have one pretty bad deviated septum---and it does get hard to breath out of that side. There is a surgery they can do--but I'm not getting it until the kids are older.
I have a bad deviated septum in my right nostril, I can never breathe, the passage is really blocked. My doc wants me to get it corrected but it freaks me out.
Hey there! I severely broke my nose in high school and had surgery that night to correct it. They didn't however, do anything to fix my horribly deviated septum. All through high school and college I had zero ability to breathe out of my right nostril. Finally, the summer before my senior year in college, I decided to see a doctor to get it fixed. The doctor was a plastic surgeon that specialized in ear, nose and throat. He procedure lasted about an hour under general anesthesia. Also, he did the procedure so that there are no visible scars.
The first two days I was on painkillers and pretty much stayed in bed. They put a packing up both of your nostrils, and honestly, that was pretty much the most uncomfortable part. I had two pretty good shiners, also.
At about a week (I think) I went in for a check-up and to get the packing removed. Basically the doctor just sticks some long tweezers up there and pulls it out. Literally, the best feeling of my life. He told me to breathe in and I started crying b/c it was so awesome.
I had to wear the hard plastic "cast" on the outside of my nose for another 3 or so weeks and couldn't swim that summer.
Also, until the cast came off, I couldn't sleep in the same bed as my husband or even kiss him for fear of bumping my nose.
All in all it was a great experience. I would highly recommend doing a lot of research on doctors in your area and interviewing a few to see who you like best. I feel like I got really lucky with an amazing doctor. GL!!
