Back pain one year after delivering??

I had an epidural during my delivery (vaginal) 13 months ago and ever since then I've had this bruising kind of feeling along my spine where they put the epidural in. I only felt the pain when I was getting a back massage, but I woke up Sunday with it just hurting on it's own with no touching. Ibuprofen, nor heat has helped.

Does anyone else have this? Could it be scar tissue or something from the epidural? I put a call into a nurse at my OB's office to ask. I'm thinking maybe an x-ray would show something. Just curious if this is common or what.

Re: Back pain one year after delivering??

  • Yes! If I press on the place at all (like during a massage) it feels like a big bruise. If I press on it for more than a couple of seconds it hurts for a while afterwards. My back has never been the same since pregnancy. I feel lik my life is one big backache. lol.

  • Yep.

Whats helped though was to shed a couple of pounds.  I can't determine though if my pains were due to weight or old epi area.  I did have two epis though within a 6 month period.

  • I think i'll have to go get a massage to find out!  I'll get back to you!  ;-)
  • yup I have this. I read in numerous places that after delivery if your hips don;t go back into line the correct way then it can cause lower back pain. I was also getting shooting pain down through my hips to the point where I couldn't really walk.
