Babies: 6 - 9 Months

My FFFC-But I'll probably get flamed.

I am taking DD off of formula. She is now on skim milk/soy rotation for the next few days. It has been brought to the attention of her Pedi. After trying every formula under the sun and soy making her so constipated, pooping actually tore her bottom open, I decided this is what's best for her. We thought she was LI because the soy worked so well, but so far she's had about 10 bottles and hasn't spit up even a tiny bit!

I'm sure I will get flamed, but I really don't care. She seems happier now like her stomach doesn't hurt from not pooping too. I am just glad the situation is rectified now!

  • No flames here. If your baby feels better with the change and she's not having poop problems. Sweet.

  • No flames here. I think if you're doing what's best for Ella-that is great. I'm glad that it's seemed to be working so well for you Smile
  • Every baby is different, and you were smart to recognize your baby's unique needs instead of go along with a status quo that wasn't working.

  • No flaming, just curious... I thought they were supposed to go on whole milk next..
  • No flames here either!  It sounds like this is a much better plan for your LO!!
  • No flames here at all.  I'm a firm believer in doing what you feel is right for your baby.  Do it up!
  • No flames. You are a fantastic mama and know what's best for baby girl! <3
  • My friend had to do that with her son.  She tried everything from breast milk to insanly expensive formula and he (and she) were in misery until she went to whole milk.

  • No flames but why Skim Milk? If you are going to do milk shouldn't you be doing whole?

  • Your pedi okayed skim milk at 7 months? Wha?

If she absolutely cannot be on any formula or donor milk, why wouldn't she be on whole milk? Her developing brain needs fat.

  • No flames here either. All babies are different and as long as your doctor is on board, no biggie.

I'm curious too about the skim vs. whole?

  • not flaming either, but I agree why skim & also are they going to keep an eye on her iron levels?  I thought that was a key component as to why they don't recommend milk at this age b/c of lack of iron?  I could be wrong about that....IDK
  • Gotta do what you gotta do, Mama!
  • Poor baby, I can't imagine how bad her little tummy hurt. I hope keeping her on milk right now agrees with her stomach, it sounds like she's been through enough!
  • Aww poor girl. No flames from me, you do what is best for your child. But like PP's I am curious why skim and not whole?
  • I guess I'm the only one that's actually going to say something.

I hope you are working with her pedi.  This sounds dangerous.  The lack of fat, iron, etc.  I'm not sure she'll receive proper nutrition and am afraid she'll get quite sick.  I'd much rather give formula and treat the constipation rather than switch like that.  Prune juice perhaps?  Glycerin suppositories?

This. I hope she will be monitored closely.  7 months and dropping formula altogether for skim milk? I'm confused.
