Long story short, back in late-June my BIL got married. (They gave everyone one week's notice!) They were engaged and married all within like 6 days. Well, we just found out they're expecting. Shocker, huh?
But here's the kicker...I get an invitation in the mail - sent by the bride- to a wedding shower for herself. Is that tacky or what? We already got them something for their shotgun wedding, but now she's hosting her own wedding shower three months after the wedding? I'm highly annoyed to the point where I don't even want to go.
Re: Is this tacky or what?
On the one hand, its kind of a bummer that BIL and his wife felt like they had to get married like they did (If that is what happened). Too bad that she couldn't have all the fanfare that she (may have) wanted.
On the other hand, yeah. Tacky.
If if bothers you enough, don't go.
I say completely tacky, but I am stickler on the ettiquette factor for these type of things. I just had a conversation with my MIL that it was wrong to try and host a shower for my SIL who is having her third LO in three years and my MIL feels she should have a shower because the first two were boys and this one is going to be a girl. I feel you have a shower for the first baby, unless there is a large gap in ages then I can kinda see it.
I think that what's tacky about it is that she decided to have the bridal shower after the wedding.
However, I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't care when people organize their own wedding/baby showers, or even have 2nd baby showers. I think it's a silly thing for people to get upset about. Not everyone has thoughtful friends and family who would organize such things for them. I don't feel like they should have to miss out on those things. Just because someone wants to have a shower doesn't mean that they are some horrible, tacky, trashy person. //random rant over.
But yeah, in their situation it seems pretty tacky.
This. Without knowing your SIL, this strikes me as more sad than anything.
