TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Thanks for reminding me.....

why I don't go to you anymore, jerk of an OB.  I called the OB that handled my first loss (handled is really a nice term, they were total jerks about it).  I need my medical records for my RE appointments.  They informed me that there is a $25 charge for the first 10 pages, and xx for beyond that.  Seriously!?!  Oh yeah, and it takes 7-10 days for them to copy them, which is just fabulous since my first RE appointment just got reschedule today for next Tuesday.

On the flip side, I called my real OB's office and she copied all like 50 pages of my medical records and had them there for me to pick up like 10 minutes after I asked for them.

Can they really charge like that for your own records?

Re: Thanks for reminding me.....

  • It thinks it's a "processing fee" since they have to pay an employee to pull your records and make copies. It makes sense, but it still sucks.

  • Loading the player...
  • If I can believe everything google tells me (and I probably can't), they can't charge as much as they're charging:

    Indiana

    • $1 per page for the first 10 pages
    • $.50 for pages 11-50
    • $.25 for pages 51 and higher
    • Labor fee not to exceed $20
    • Actual cost of mailing the records
    • Additional $10 if the request is for copies to be provided within two working days
    • $20 for certifying a patient's medical record
ETA: I'm guessing that they are legal because they're probably charging a labor fee plus a per page fee.  It just really stinks.

  • I've seen this before but most of the time they won't charge you to fax the records to another doctor. I've used this two ways 1. I gave them my dad's fax number and had them fax them to my parents house (saying it was a nutritionist or whatever so I had a copy of them because the dr.s office will destroy them after like 5 years if you're no longer a patient) 2. Just have them fax them to the RE's office- tell them you're going today. You could also have the RE's office call them and request them.
  • I have seen some places charge $25 but no more and it was very timely.

Connor Thomas 6/6/08. Discovered missed miscarriage at 17 wks 3 days, D&C 11/25/09. Please, please, please - BFP 5/21/11, EDD 2/1/11. Beta@12DPO=52, Beta@14DPO=158. U/S 7/7/11 shows strong baby measuring a couple days ahead!!! Pregnancy Ticker
  • Oh, for fvck sakes, that seems like such nonsense. I could see maybe asking you to pay a fee for super fast service, but paying it *and* waiting 7-10 days?

They can eat a bag of d!cks.

12 long, hard years of TTC-

Natural BFP (WTF?!) - 06/04/11 ~ lots of complication and drama, but sweet baby Adele born 02/07/12!

BFP #million -another girl for us! EDD - 05-08-15 (but will come early)

  • My OB faxed all my pregnancy records over to the RE in a day with no charge.  I could see if you'd asked 15 times already....but seriously  I'd have the RE's office call and request them.
