Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Urgent Question...airline travel w/ your LO...

Do I need to supply some sort of ID when we fly on a plane next week with L??

I'm the world's worst mom and haven't requested her birth certificate yet...she has a SS card and everything, but I never got her birth certificate.

I read online that they shouldn't need anything to identify L thru security...but wanted to double check to see if you ladies knew anything about traveling with your LO & their identification (if needed).

TIA!!!!

  • I always carry her birth certificate when we fly, but nobody has ever asked for it.  I would assume it is more important when they are closer to two and they want to verify age if the baby doesn't have it's own seat.

  • I've traveled with DS twice, and carried his birth certificate once. Never been asked. They usually just mention how cute he is, and we're on our way! :)

  • when I traveled with L I didn't need any identification.  I called the airline and the local airports to verify, as long as your baby is of age to sit on your lap (under 2) you don't need any ID, that was flying domestic, not sure about international flights.
  • We called the airline and were told that you can show her vaccination card as proof.
  • Hi there.

I have a 9 year old and an 11 month old, you do not need any ID. My son (oldest) still does not have to show his ID. Unless your child travels alone or going through customs, no ID required.

We travel a lot, all over the world too. So we're seasoned pro's.

    Have a safe trip.

  • you'll need the birth certificate
  • The only thing I needed for DS was his passport for the international parts of the flights.  Domestic you won't need anything.

I've taken the BC, but they have never asked for it on domestic flights. GL!

  • We needed DD's birth certificate when we flew out of our home town air port but we didn't need it when we left our destination for home. I would call both airports you will be leaving from to make sure.

  • We had to have the birth certificate to fly.  They checked it at both airports.

  • We flew Delta last week (domestic) and didn't need anything for him.

  • If you fly Southwest, you'll need copy of birth certificate or vaccination records.  They claim they could get fined by the FAA is they found out didn't supply it for them.
  • On our domestic flights, no we haven't been asked.  But yes, you should carry the birth certificate and they can deny you access. We took out first Int'l flight last week and he did require a passport.

  • I'm surprised by the replies that you need it.  We've flown twice and it's never been needed.  Both flights were Delta.

  • I've never needed anything when flying with DS.
  • I actually was asked for it, but I hadn't yet ordered the actual birth certificate yet...I only had the paper copy when we left the hospital. No problems there.
Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
