Names For Multi-Racial Babe

My mom picked the name Pasha (as we were passing an Indian restaurant named Pasha Indifferent) at first I said hell no, but its kinda grown on me and SO and his family LOVES it.  I changed the spelling to Posha and we've been calling her Posha ever since.  I always wince when I tell people her first name because I always get... Posha?! Why that name? I know I shouldn't care what people think of the name but I can't help but think if I weren't giving her his last name, I'm sure I wouldn't be naming her Posha.  We are both multi-racial, SO is east indian/creole and I am black/italian and LO will have his last name, and her middle name is Giovanni.  I love the name Peyton but family thinks Peyton Patel would sound silly.  Is it stupid to try and "match" her first and lastname?

Re: Names For Multi-Racial Babe

  • I don't usually like alliterative names but I have to admit it's kind of cute! I prefer it spelled Pasha though. I looked it up and one site said it was a Greek name meaning "sea", and another said it was a Russian boys' name having something to do with Good Friday. Does it have an Indian meaning as well?

  • I actually love Pasha, but spell it right. With the "o", it looks like Poe-shuh. Pasha is just lovely and it does sound nice with your last name. I think people will warm up to it. Stick to your guns. :)

Aw thanks, I've gotten a little boost of confidence now!  Yeah it means little gift for girls and it has a meaning for boys too that I forgot.  The spelling for it was Pascha in indian I think.

Thanks! Yeah that's what we were going for, it to sound well with surname.  LOL my aunt calls her Potion, she too dislikes the spelling.  In-laws spell it Pascha, I only changed it 'cause her big brother calls her Posh, maybe I'll change it back! Thanks again!

  • Pasha is way better than Posha, which I would also be inclined to pronounce "poe-sha." You can still call her Posh as a nickname.

Giovanna is also better than Giovanni.

  • Your screenname makes me think you are a spice girls fan, and have decided to name your baby after Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice).

AND it sounds like you are trying to sound pretentious/rich/posh, and failing... hard.

THIS. Giovanni is all boy to me, and Pasha (spelled this way) is MUCH better than Peyton.

Wow, I didn't get that feeling at all - your screen name makes me think you made it after you decided to name your baby Pasha/Posha.  While it's not my normal style, I think it is actually a really pretty name and Posh is a cute nn.  People will definitely warm up.

  • I dont mind Pasha at all, but Giovanni is a boys name.
  • I think Pasha is a lovely name. There's no need to wince when you tell people. It's a good name with a good meaning, and it reflects your FI's culture. You can tell people that's why you picked the name, if you keep encountering people rude enough to wrinkle their nose at you (can't believe the failure to be polite).

  • I like Pasha. :-) I agree with the pps, it's better spelled Pasha if that's how you are wanting to pronounce it.

  • I think Pasha sounds fine with the last name. I don't like the Posha spelling though, it does make me think of Posh Spice (Damn the Spice girls!) and I can see how some would want to pronounce it poe-sha. So I would go with the Pasha spelling. GL!
  • I think Pasha is cute, but I would avoid the spelling Posha.  It reminds me of the whole culture of advertising/marketing to girls in the aim of making them into Paris Hilton.  You know, like little glitter-encrusted onesies that say "spoiled little princess" or "charge it on my platinum card".

Pasha is a beautiful name and she will be able to grow with it into a strong, individual woman. And Posh seems like a reasonable nn for it, but I just would not spell her formal name Posha- it reminds me of the spice girls.

    Ditto to this above.

  • I like it. I also like the indian spelling, Pascha. Very pretty with Patel. Better than Peyton.

  • I've known a couple of Pasha/Paschas both male and female.  Love the name and every one I've known has been a great person.  Plus there's Pasha from SYTYCD who can dance like mad.

LOL really, oh not hardly Tongue Tied lol I get why are you naming your baby after Posh Spice a lot, I guess because that's the only time anyone's used that name, and the only time I've heard it used as a word before for that matter lol but actually I just got my screen name from the baby's name and baby's name from her Granny.

BTW Baby is here.  She came right as doctor expected on August 27 at 6:18 pm.  We decided to spell her name Pascha.  She was 7lbs. 11.8oz and we are home recovering.  Now my dilemna has changed from naming to breastfeeding ;-)
