Boppy?

It seems every shower Ive ever gone to they have registered for and receive a boppy.  But Ive never seen anyone actually using one w/ a child.  Are you planning to get one and do you feel it is really necessary or does a regular pillow do the same job?

Re: Boppy?

  • I used them when I babysat.  I registered for a regular Boppy and the newborn lounger.  I think that they might be a little sturdy than a pillow.  Just my opinion.

  • Every mom I know has a bobby and says they are worth it. They are sturdier than a regular pillow and they use them to bf or just to lay/sit the baby in.

My friend who's LO is now 1 1/2 says she and her DH now use it for themselves, as a pillow. lol

  • I used a boppy with my DS. This time around I got a My Breast Friend. I love it so much better than the boppy. Its much more comfortable after a c-section, has elbow support and just overall a much more comfortable position than the boppy.
  • My friends use them for breastfeeding although I have done research and found that the "My Breast Friend" works better for 0-3 month breastfeeding and then the boppy can take over.

I have used them before when babysitting, to prop the baby up in to sit, and they can't roll in it so if you have to turn your back or go to the bathroom it can work for that.

  • I couldn't breast feed without it for the first couple months with with DS.  Most people never saw me using it because I didn't typically breast feed while others were over, and if I did I was probably in another room.  I don't see the point in getting two breastfeeding pillows.  The boppy was great.

  • When not used for feeding, LO can lay on it for some good "tummy time".
  • I used mine constantly with my first LO, for breast feeding and for propping him up/tummy time.

One suggestion though, if you get one, I'd definately get a second cover for it.  We always had one on it and one in the wash (pretty much from spit up, etc.).

  • I used it a ton for breastfeeding and sometimes to set LO in to nap next to me in.  I also had one upstairs and one downstairs, total indulgence, but I'd always end up on the opposite floor from where the Bopy was and my Mom offered to pick up another and I jumped at the offer.

  • I didn't use it for nursing.  It was too awkward.  DD used it for tummy time and then as a stabilizer for when she was learning how to sit up.

  • I have two boppy's and a my breast friend.  If you are planning on breast feeding a breast feeding pillow of some type is essential.  The my breast friend was the best with a new born, boppy's are great after that (both needed extra pillows so that I wouldn't be bent over the baby while nursing).

I have two boppy's because on my first trip out of town with DS I traveled without a nursing pillow.  DS spit up a lot and I found I was getting other peoples pillows all dirty with milk and spit up :(  I purchased a boppy on day two of my trip, from then on I traveled with my boppy till DS was about 6 months old.

  • All my friends who are moms agreed that I had to get a Boppy.  Apparently they use them quite a bit.  I registered for one along with an extra cover (I was told I needed this, too).

  • It's definitely one of my must-haves.  I have used it with DS from day one in the hospital and still use it.

  • DH and I LOVE the Boppy. awesome for BF and bottle feeding too (again, you have to use another pillow under it so that the baby can reach your breast)

  • I HATE my boppy for breastfeeding. The My Brest Friend is soooo much better for me. Yay for back support and actually fitting around your waist. DD has managed to kick the boppy off my lap before.

However, the boppy is useful for support when other people feed her or hold her, or for tummy time or even just propping her up.

  • A friend of mine was just telling me how much she used and loved her Boppy and she didn't even breastfeed.

I've heard that this is the same size (Boppy covers fit) and a lot cheaper:
