I mountain bike and recently have started having a lot of lower back pain on my rides. I am 4 months pp.
I am not sure if it's just my weak core, or from switching bikes recently. (I was riding a full suspension, but have now went back to my hardtail). I also get pain in the tailbone area, almost like it's bruised. Just wondering if anyone else had the same pain and how long it took to improve. I just hope it's something that improves with time as my body gets back to normal. I would have a meltdown if this is how I am going to feel forever!
Re: Any pp mountain bikers? Question about lower back pain.
I don't mountain bike (just regular) but I get severe back pain all of the time, not just when exercising. My OB thinks I might have damage to my pelvic floor muscles, and I'm getting a cat scan on Tue.
So, I'd say it doesn't hurt to call and ask your doctor.
Really? I am even having pain in my groin, more at the end of the day when I have been standing for a long time. Hmm, guess it might be a good idea to mention it to the dr. Thanks! Good luck with your scan.
LOL! Happy cooking!
Thanks so much! I will check that out. I actually have a PT appt today. I'm glad to hear it's helped you out.
Switching from the full suspension is def. going to make a huge difference.
My hubby manages a bike shop & is a cycling coach. I'll run your question by him & get back to you with a better answer.
I had abdonimal surgery to remove a huge fibroid th end of April, so I def had weak ab muscles when I started riding again. It didn't cause me any lower back pain, just a little cramping in my sides.
That would be great! Thanks!
You definitely feel everything on the trail with this bike. Ouch. (but I love it, so I'm not getting rid of it!) I went to see my PT last week and he gave me some exercises to help strengthen my hips and core. I am hoping that helps a little. The tailbone pain and lower pelvic pain has been better the last few days, so I'm hoping I'm over the worst of it.
I asked my husband last night & he said if your weaker ab muscles were causing you to lean more you would also be having shoulder pain as well as lower back pain.
I'm guessing from the wording of your post this isn't a new bike correct? It's one you were riding before the baby? I'm asking just to make sure the bike is the correct size for you to be riding. I changed out my handle bars for riser bars on my bike so I didn't have to lean as much & it is much more comfortable.
I really don't have a lot of shoulder pain. Not that I notice on my rides anyway.
It's a new frame, but it's the same geometry as my old one, just in carbon. LOL-I just got rid of my risers for a flat bar again, since that's what was on my old bike. I am actually finding the flat bar more comfortable than the other one. I would have thought risers would be better too. My risers were longer than my flat bar, so I wonder if that had something to do with it?
Maybe pregnancy has just taken a toll on my body. Thanks so much for asking your husband and getting back to me. Lucky guy working in a bike shop. That would be DH's dream job!
