1st Trimester

who hasn't given up their coffee?

::raises hand:: I did last time with DS and I had the worst headaches...so I switched to half cafe and only drink 6oz a morning.  The it's water the rest of the day, I never really drank pop.  I just can't give coffee up completely.  Anyone else?

Re: who hasn't given up their coffee?

  • Until morning sickness hit, I was still having a cup a morning, with lots of milk.  When morning sickness goes away (hopefully soon!) I'll resume a cup a morning.

  • I've always drank Decaf due to a heart condition..but I did have a glass of Coke today and now I am bouncing off the walls at work haha!
  • I gave up my coffee while stimming for IVF.  Stims gave more horrible headaches so I thought that was a perfect time to go off caffeine since I was already suffering.  LOL!

  • I haven't but it doesn't taste even half as good now though....
  • I'm slowly quitting but don't want to go cold turkey because of the withdrawal headaches. I'm down to 4-5oz from 16oz in May. It's not that I think 4 oz of coffee is "bad" -- but I don't want to feel addicted anymore. Plus I'm peeing enough already! I do add a cup of black tea now and then to help with the fatigue.

  • I am sticking to one cup first thing in the morning, or when I first get the the office, and that's it.

I normally have a diet soda or tea in the afternoon, but I have given that up.

  • I have one cup every morning.  Sometimes I'll have an iced tea in the afternoon.
  • Hand raised up way high!!  I drink one cup a day in the morning.  My doctor says that's fine.  Funny story, my DH wanted me to give it up cold turkey....I told him I would if he did it with me (and that included not drinking coffee at work).  That's all it took for him to say that one cup a day isn't a big deal.  Ha ha.
  • I've cut down to half caf too. Before BFP, I was a caffeine addict (4-5 cups coffee, iced tea, etc) so it has been difficult.
  • I used to drink a  pot of coffee every morning...plus more in the afternoon.  I switched to 1/2 caff in the morning...but I am still drinking a few cups...  and honestly, I will most likely continue to drink at least one cup of half caff every morning... I know your not supposed to.... but I have a 2 year old to chase around and the one day I tried to not have any i passed out for a 2 hour nap!!  THankfully my 2 year old was just fine.... but napping while she was awake really scared me!!  So if your feeling bad about not kicking the coffee habit... know your not alone!
  • I drink just as much coffee now as I did prepregnancy - which is about 3 cups a week.

  • I did with DD...it honestly made me sick to even smell it. so far, i am okay...but did switch to decaf (primarily).
  • I havent either but i have always drank 1/2 caff or decaf usually 1 cup in the am and sometimes at night and i'm good :)

  • I've never had more than one cup in the morning.  I tried to stop, but the headaches were awful.  So, I'm back to one cup a day.

I've never been into soda, so that's not a loss.  Otherwise, it's just tons of water.

  • I'm a half decaf / half caf as well.  Works for me!

I quit cold turkey when I got my BFP at ~4 weeks.  Then came the morning sickness, and then week 10 and beyond brought really bad headaches on a daily basis.  At my last appointment I was actually advised to reintroduce some caffeine to help with that so I'm doing half-caff in the mornings like you.  Days with morning coffee = no headaches; days without morning coffee = headaches all afternoon/evening.  So morning half-caff it is!

  • I switched to black tea when I found out I was pregnant. My Dr. says it's ok to have a small cup of coffee each day but it just doesn't sound that yummy these days.
  • I've cut down to two cups from 3-4

  • I love the taste of coffee, though it has been upsetting my stomach a bit lately. I started drinking decaf so I could still get my latte fix and occassionally do half-caff when I need a boost. Everything in moderation, right? :)
  • I still have one cup every morning. With DD I stopped altogether and like you said, I had horrible headaches. This time around I'm not as paranoid and honestly its the only thing that can keep me on a "regular" bathroom schedule, wether I'm pregnant or not, so I'd be miserable without it. I don't drink soda though so thats about the only caffeine I have all day.
