I'm just curious how you ladies plan on telling your class/parents. I go back to work next week, and while I plan on letting my principal know right away, I'm not sure if I want to tell my class so soon.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'm a specialist so I basically see the entire school. I am not going to officially tell the students. If they start asking me, I will tell them (if it's past the 1st tri- I have a few days with them before that).
I know I'm going to tell my principal on Monday but I haven't decided if I will tell my collegues on Wednesday or wait 2 more weeks until I'm in the 2nd tri.
I teach freshmen physical science...and its a new format so my long term sub will have to be trained on it. Plus its my 3rd pregnancy, and I am apparently showing already, so I told my supervisor and assistant superintendent last week (I am 9 1/2 weeks now). I wanted to wait until 12 weeks, but I am relieved it is over with and now everyone knows. As far as parents go unless they see me before hand I'll be obvious at back to school night and if they ask, then I'll answer.
While my school knows, I don't think i'll tell my students until I am showing. Who knows when that will be. I'm not really showing yet & my mom didn't show until 5 months. Since this is my first, I don't know if it's protocol to send something home to the parents to let them know as well. I definitely won't have told anyone by back to school night so that's not an option.
I'm planning on waiting to tell my principal until the mid-end of September. Once I tell her, I'll let the faculty know. As far as the kids, I'm not comfortable "announcing" to them. I don't know how to say, "So guys, I'm pregnant. I'll be leaving in March but coming back sometime in the beginning of May. And on to today's lesson on prepositions." I plan on waiting until one questions me (which one will since they are 6th graders) and then let the word spread like wildfire.

I told my principal and the faculty last week. I teach high school, so I have several classes. I haven't told my 9th graders yet, but I have told my class of upperclassmen. I've taught most of them in the past, so I knew they would be excited. My 9th graders don't know me well enough yet to really care.
I'm a specialist, too. I'm not going to make an official announcement but as the kids start to ask, I'll tell them. I'm not telling my principal or staff until 13 weeks, so mid-September.
I told my principal last Tuesday. Mostly because school was starting on Wednesday and I wanted to make sure I told him first before I started telling my coworkers. I've told two other people so far - not that they asked but it kind of came up - I'm slowly telling others. I don't think I'll tell the kids though til I really start showing. Now I just look fatter.
With DS, I told my principal/staff at 12 weeks, but waited until Back to School Night to inform parents. I didn't even really tell the parents. I always hand out a packet of my expectations/procedures. On the cover page, I have my contact info and put a bullet after saying I would be on maternity leave in February. The next day I told the kids during our morning meeting. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it this year. Maybe just send a note home with their weekly papers at some point.
I told my principal the other day and he advised me to wait as long as possible to tell the parents. He said that some parents may want to pull their kids out of your room because you will be gone but the longer you wait to tell them the less they seem to care.
Told my principal before going back. During the first teacher day "pep rally" for all staff they always announce last year's and this year's births and weddings, so I had it announced then so everyone would just know at once and I'd never have to deal with some knowing and some not later. For the kids I have a sentence or two about the baby in my all about teacher page on my webpage. Tomorrow the students are spending the period checking out everything on the webpage. We'll see who reads carefully and how fast the news spreads after. So far three parents know and they don't seem to be talking to others yet.
I'm not going to tell my students. I teach on a triad and one of the other teachers is pregnant. She is due a month before me, and some of the kids have asked her if she was pregnant. She just changed the subject... I think that the kids will know that she's pregnant and then think that I am. I'll let them talk to each other about it but I don't plan on making any announcements.
As far as the principal, I told mine before the year started. I told her it was too early to announce, but I felt like she needed to know for scheduling purposes and so on.

I love that there are so many teachers on here!! It was like this on theknot too!!!
I'm a specialist and I'm starting at a new school, so I'm not telling anyone anytime soon. I'm curvy, so I'm thinking that I might not have to tell until 3rd tri. After all my dentist mistook my flab for a baby bump. They'll just think I've gain weight...which is kinda depressing. I'm leaving in March and my 12 weeks takes me through the end of the school year and the plan as of right now is for me to stay at home.
But who knows at the first happy hour when I don't drink, someone will probably say something and I'll blab bc it's hard to keep a secret!!!!
I have not told my principal yet or my kids. I am waiting untill my next appt on the 7th. I'm so paranoid something bad will happen and I really want to wait to hear the heartbeat. Although I am starting to show and it is really hard to keep my mini bump concealed. I've already had 2 colleagues ask a friend if I was preggo.

I can't decide when to tell them. I'm 11.5w PG with twins and not showing in the slightest. Who knows when I'll finally get a belly.
I teach HS and most of my students I haven't had before. For some reason I want to get to know them before I tell. Maybe in a month or so.
