How do you formula feeders pack your bag?

I am just wondering for those of you who use formula, how do you feed you little one when you go out? I know formula does not last long so I was wondering do you pack bottles with pre measured powder and have other bottles with pre measure water? Or if you bring the can with you. Right now I have been buying the 2oz shake and go bottles, but those little things are getting expensive. Just need any adive or tips. Thanks!

We filled a formula dispenser like this one

with the right amount of formula for say 6 oz bottles and then filled the bottles with the right amount of water.  When she was hungry we just put the powder in and shook the bottle up and there you go!

If you want to use ready made you may want to invest in a cool bag.  They make them for just one bottle up to 4.

  • Depends where we're going.  I will either pack an empty bottle (we keep water in the car) and take the formula canister with me, or I will pack an insulated bag with an icepack of ready made bottles.

  • My boys will refuse cold bottles so we can't do premade.  I will often put the scoops of formula in the bottles (make sure they're extra dry) and pour the water in later.  I know how full the bottles should be with the scoops and water.  If I don't have any super dry bottles I'll pack the formula canister with a bottle of water

  • If it's a short trip (or she'll be expecting to eat in under 2 hours) I'll warm the formula from the pitcher before we leave the house and carry it like that. Otherwise, I have some very small Glad containers that I put the 4 scoops of formula in (one bottle's worth) and get the water from wherever we are when the time comes. If I'm not sure we'll be somewhere that we can get warm water, then I put it in the bottle before we leave the house and just mix the two together when the time comes.

  • We got the 4 oz powder packets and have bottled water and empty bottles in the bag.
  • I have a sample contanier I got from the docs office that I pack in her bag and then just fill bottles with water.
  • Back when DD was on formula, I carried a bottle filled with pre-measured water and a squirt of mylicon (helps keep the bubbles down when shaking to mix the formula) and the individual packets of powder.  The individual packets are a little expensive but they're so convenient it was worth it to me.

  • They're on milk now, but I used to make the next day's bottles up before bed and put them in the fridge.  When I went out I would put a couple in a cold bag (think lunch box with blue ice in it).
  • Great advice! Thanks again everyone. Looks like I will try a couple of ideas out and see what works best! She eats like a mad woman so I really do appreciate everyones tips!
