This is a weekly check in where ladies who are dealing with a low supply of breastmilk can share their successes and get support for their challenges and difficult days.
If you are looking for supply boosting ideas here is a link to a great post that JenniferJaneC posted rating all of the supply boosters she has tried. Here is a recipe for lactation cookies and here is a recipe for lactation banana bread.
Here is the link to the Motherlove webpage. They are the makers of More Milk Plus and More Milk Special Blend. There is also a store locator on their site so you can find the closest place to you to buy it.
How are you doing this week ladies?
Re: ~~Low Supply Ladies Check In~~
I have been very lucky so far, and I thank my lucky stars for it at every feeding, but now I find that my supply seems to be dwindling even though I exclusively bf. I have not reached the point of needing medical assistance yet, and I'm trying to keep it that way.
So far, it doesn't seem to affect DD's weight, only her temper at finding a less than satisfying meal, which means I have to feed her more often, which means I don't have enough left to pump. I will be trying the tricks and recipes listed above.
Thank you for ideas and the support.
Berrybuzz -- Good luck with the dom. ?It didn't do wonders for me, but I know it does for many people.?
?
I'm still here. Still trying. Still having to supplement with about 2 oz of formula at 3 out of 7 feeds/day.?
?I stopped More Milk Plus after figuring out that fenugreek gave my daughter terrible gas/stomach pains. I'm giving Goat's Rue by itself a whirl. I've heard Goat's Rue is helpful if you have IGT. I've wondered if that's part of my problem since my boobs didn't change much during pregnancy and it was darn hard to tell when my milk "came in"
I'm also thinking about adding alfalfa. Yeah, I'm still hoping there is a magic pill out there somewhere. Even though, from reglan to oatmeal i think ive almost tried it all.?
I get my thyroid checked again next month to see if meds have brought my levels to normal. If not, will up my dose of synthroid.?
DD is four months next week. ?One-third of the way to a year. Yeah!. But I've been discouraged and tired on the nurse, pump, supplement hamster wheel. I'm trying to get the guts up to go to a LLL meeting for encouragement. I just hope they don't judge me for being a formula supplementer.?
Hi All, new to posting on here - My LO is 7 months and I started having major supply issues beginning of July. At LOs 6 mos appt, he had lost weight (was at the doctor 2 weeks prior) and dropped to the 2nd % for weight (was in the 25th - so always on the small side). Ped wanted us to supplement with extra bottles. I work fulltime since LO was 3 mos and pumped, but my supply went from about 12 - 16 oz a day to 6 oz (over 3 pumps). Took fenugreek without making any difference. Rented a hospital grade pump. Drink water and eat oatmeal.
Lactation Specialist recommended more milk plus. Just got that today. Anyone have success with that after not having success with fenugreek?
LO now gets formula at daycare, I nurse morning and night, and give him the pumped milk after I nurse morning and night - he did gain a pound in two weeks, so Ped wants to keep doing what I am doing, but I am working desparately to get my supply back to maybe send at least one bottle of EM to DC.
Thanks for listening any advice would be great!
In the last (roughly) week and a half, I've gained 4 oz in output. I just got a PISA a week ago, and I think that it's helping a lot - the pump I had before had a lot of .... quirks .... that I feel were hindering production. I'm taking domperidone, and that has worked wonders! I'm now pumping two small bottles worth a day, half of which I'm freezing and the other I'm giving LO each day.
I got supplies to make lactation cookies, but haven't done it yet. I've been using the brewers yeast and flaxseed meal in other things as I cook - last night I added them to my mac and cheese, mixed in with the cheese, and I couldn't even taste it!
The domperidone is really helping me. Three days this week I have been able to just feed DD pumped milk all day and only give formula at night, and that felt great! I can get anywhere from 1.5-3oz in a pumping session now, and I pump about 10xday. I did however go back to the LC yesterday and saw a different counselor and she confirmed DD's bad latch and seemed...doubtful, that she would ever go back to the breast. Maybe if my output goes higher it will be easier, but it was sad to hear that we may never be EBF. Its all I wanted and we've had so many obstacles. I cried a little bit in the LC's office. I think I am going to finish all my domperidone, see if my supply tanks again and re-evaluate, because I don't know if I can maintain the pumping schedule I am on, plus this dairy free diet, plus feeding DD. My sanity has to fit in someplace!
Hello, I am new to this as well, and would appreciate any advice. LO is 11 week and has gained 2lbs since her birth. The doc and the nurses as the breastfeeding clinic have indicated I have a low supply, but then I spoke to someone from the la leche league and they suggested that there might not be anything wrong, since the baby seems completely happy and doesn't fuss at the breast.
Anyways, I am taking 120 domeridone a day (started 2 weeks ago) and eating steal cut oats. I have fenugrek and i was going to go buy the blessed thistle to go along with it. I also have the tea but I haven't used it too much. Right now I nurse the baby on demand all day and generally give her some formula in the evening, then after she goes to bed I can ussually pump 2- 2.5oz every 2hrs (when I am not nursing her). I rented the hospital pump and try to pump after she feeds- but it is hard when LO doesn't sleep.
I guess now my approach is go with the flow, I feed her as much as I can and pump when and if I have a chance, and then give formula when I feel I can't supply anymore. My plan was to nurse till 6 months and I am half way there. I could definately use some ideas or thoughts...
That (in bold) seems to be a lot - I'd always been told that the maximum dose should be 90 mg/day.
Two pounds in not quite three months, while not what you always hear should happen, seems good; it honestly doesn't sound like you have a low supply - you're baby is happy and healthy, and gaining weight - just not "the norm" (most "norms" for babies these days are based on formula fed babies, anyway). I agree with the LLL person you spoke to.
Also, that's a decent output for the frequency you're pumping in the evening - it's suggested that a baby have one ounce of bm per hour away from mom, so roughly 24 ounces in 24 hours; 2.5 oz/2 hours seems great!
