I'm thinking of going to the fair on Friday with a friend. I can't decide if I should bring our stroller or bring dd in the baby bjorn or wrap? Any thoughts?
We took baby I last year and he was about 6 weeks old...we used the stroller, there's too much stuff to carry and its nice to have a place to put them when you're tired...plus we ended up having to use the stroller for a diaper change because the line was about a mile long to get to the bathroom.
Yeah, that's why I was thinking of bringing the stroller. There's so much stuff to carry that I will be so weighed down with the bag and a carrier. If my husband was with he could help but I don't want to make my friend carry our diaper bag around the fair.
I had the same question. I know for sure we are going to bring the stroller but thinking of also bringing the carrier in case LO wants a change of scenery. Should be an interesting time. We usually go all day and most of the night, that won't be happening this year!
I would map out where all the bathrooms are and take note of that before you go for diaper changes...We found one bathroom towards the front (Snelling Ave Side) that actually had the baby changing stations on the outside of the building and that was AWESOME because we didn't have to stand in line...
I agree if you have a small carrier you might want to bring that and stick it under the stroller for if she wants a break out of the stroller.
I would go with the stroller. You can always bring the carrier with and switch back and forth. I would also bring a blanket and that can use to change baby on. We changed several diapers on a blanket outside on the ground as it was just easier. If you do want to use a cahnging station, we never waited in line, we just said we're going to use the changing station and went in, people generally understand what you are going to do. Now, if the changing station is in a stall, I guess that would be different, but we never ran into that.
We are excited for this to be our last year with a stroller. DS #2 just sometimes needs to be buckeled in. Next year we will graduate to wagon only! Can't wait for the year they can both walk all day.
If you're only going for a couple hours the carrier between you and DH may work. Not sure how much you have to bring though? I was never a baby overpacker... 2 diapers, some wipes (in a plastic zip lock bag) and off we go. The old ladies at the state fair LOVED that dh had baby in the wrap and was such an involved dad. hehe
BOTH! Our son was five months old at the fair last year, and he really appreciated the occasional change in scenery. If you're already bringing the stroller, throwing the Bjorn in the basket is super easy and it may come in handy!
I would bring both. I would wear Mr.A for a little bit then I would put him in the stroller. It was really easy plus last year it was really warm & wearing him just got to hot.
ALso make sure to check out the MomsLikeMe "baby Change Center" next to the talk 107 booth (I belive) It is a tent with Fans plus changing tables with EVERYTHING in case you forget something, plus some great things for BF moms. Also there are great change tables (with all the goodies) in the "lost child" building across from Old village (sorry forgot the name) they have a lot of rooms with changing tables & chairs for BF.
The bad thing about bringing a child to the State Fair is that you have to bring a stroller. The GREAT thing about bringing a child to the State Fair is that you GET to bring a stroller.
That's what I've said ever since we took DD1 when she was 4 months old. It sucks because you have to navigate the stroller everywhere, you can't just pop up onto the sidewalk from the street to avoid a huge crowd and people without strollers tend to get annoyed with people who have them.
BUT, to be able to have a place to park a bunch of stuff--BOTTLED WATER!!!--was great. I like being able to pack little extras without having to carry it. I can't imagine toting a baby in a carrier and also carry a bag full of their gear. Also, if they are tired, it was much easier to recline the stroller and use the canopy to shade from the sun.
