TMI Post - Lightning Crotch... what is it?!

I've heard the term before, but have no idea what it truly is. Is it only during labor, or can it come upon during pg? If during pg, and you got it, when did you get it first? What exactly causes it (besides the actual baby)? Where exactly does it hurt? Any remedies?

I got some pain down there last night and it was unbearable! I'm not sure what it was, but then thought it was this? Maybe?

For me (and as far as I know) it's when the baby kicks/punches/whatever you in the cervix and you get this shooting pain that really sucks. It happened to me a lot starting towards the end of the 2nd trimester and increased until it was every day, multiple times a day until I gave birth. Think my little one was very low and her head was rubbing.

Almost forgot. The only remedy for me was getting on all fours and leaning on my elbows so that she would shift position away from the cervix. It didn't last long but it helped a little. Obviously that's hard to do when you're not at home, lol.

It felt like Matthew was getting a knife and stabbing me down there. THE.WORST.PAIN.EVER!!! I would cry at night because that is when I would get it. It was like an electrical shock. I'm guessing it was nerve he was touching. You'll know!

Jackie mines started around 14 weeks or so but thankfully haven't felt it for a week and a half now. ((KNOCK ON WOOD)) It is just as it sounds. It's like having an electrical zapper down by your va jay jay. lol Worst is when your standing somewhere and all you can do is cross your legs and not be obvious. :P

I'm not sure that is what I felt.

Mine usually occurs right after I shower. I think the soap may be irritating me, and it STINGS like h*ll. I've been using baby soap to help but last night was unbearable. I used Balmex. The pain is right in the inside of the "lips." But today I've had the same pain, but to a lot lesser degree.

oooh that actually sounds different. hmm, does it burn when you urinate or do you have any disharge? I had a weird pain down there in the last few weeks. It felt as if my lips were swollen from the baby being so low. It felt as if I had the baby hanging out of there. sorry TMI. lol It happened to be my uterus pressing on a full bladder; I told my Ob and I ended up having a UTI.

It's not clear cut to me what you may have going on. It could easily be a yeast infection though or like you said, irritation from soap. Our bodies are so sensitive during pregnancy...try plain dove soap if you don't use it already. It could also be UTI or vaginal varicositis (yup they exist). I would let your Ob know so she can check you and make sure everything is ok down there! Hope it gets better!

It doesn't hurt when I urinate, really mostly when I wash. And yes, I've been having tons of discharge for almost 2 mo, but OB said it was normal (as long as no odor or irritation). Still no odor, but def irritation, at times.

If it continues through the weekend, I guess I'll call in.

FYI, due to the progesterone and everything else with Spencer and now with this one, I ended up with a yeast infection and UTI in the end of the 1st tri and beginning of the 2nd...

i got the "zaps" all the time near the end of my pg with mady...now with my pregnancy with evan i've gotten them a lot sooner. it basically means your cervix is ripening and getting ready. it never hurt me just felt uncomfortable, almost like the baby's head was rubbing down there...sometimes i would hold my crotch until it went away, it never lasts long enough for me.

i however did get a yeast infection with my pg with mady from all the discharge i was having near the end. its like a wet pee spot on your panties, never had a yeast infection prior so i had no idea what it was until i went to see my dr. so if you have discharge check it out soon before it gets worse.

I did have a YI a couple of mo ago, which was painful constantly... this isn't, thankfully. Oh well. Def ask next time. Yesterday and so far today has been a lot better. : )

Just a note- yeast infections can present differently. Some present with discharge, others itching, others burning on urination. In the pospartum period during my 1st pregnancy I received antibiotics for a 3rd degree tear I got...i took the antibiotics and eventually I developed a YI that presented with only extreme/excrutiating pain whenever we had sex. Go figure! Buut so glad you are feeling better!
