At what point did your OB start doing an internal exam to check your cervix?
I know my dad didn't check his patients until 39 weeks. I had Ashlyn early, so I never got checked last time. They aren't very comfortable, and honestly I don't know what the point is except to get you excited for something that still may not progress for weeks. I have an apt. tomorrow, just wondering when other Dr.'s started checking. Ugh, I hope I can opt out!!!
Re: Internal exam
The only benefit I can see is it helps determine if you're ready for induction? I know you can't (well, shouldn't) be induced unless your cervix is ripe. Other than that, I agree... all it does is get you excited for nothing.

Mine started when I started my weekly visits...so 36 weeks. They were just uncomfortable for me, didn't really hurt. And I was never over 1 cm so it didn't really get my hopes up. I'm sure you can opt out if you would rather not have them done.
My OB normally starts checking at 36 weeks, and does them weekly until you deliver.
I only had 3 before my water broke, 2 were at 28 & 29 weeks because of my preterm labor.
