Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Is the Moby safe for baby?

I'm from 0-3 but I figured since y'all have been using them for a lengthier time, you would know for sure. I heard the Bjorn possibly caused problems with baby's hips or something... Will the hug hold in the Moby be ok or do the same thing as Bjorn? Thanks!

  • I didn't start using the Moby until DD was about 2 months, but she seemed to like it.  She always fell asleep in it regardless of the way I put her in.  They are a bit pricey though for pretty much a long piece of cotton material and now that I look back, I should have made my own.

  • I never liked the Moby...I couldn't get it just right and my daughter would start to sag in it, plus my back would ache after a short walk  She would also fuss a lot and get overheated.  I got the Ergo and have had no issues.
  • I used the Moby from birth and loved it for the beginning. It's designed to be ergonomically correct for the hips and back. I have an Ergo as well but never used it with the thick infant insert.
  • How old was your LO when you began using the Ergo? We actually got that as a gift, but without the insert. Our boy is 7 weeks, about 14 lbs and he's pretty good at holding his head...

  • Yes, if used properly. I first put DD in mine when she was about 2 weeks.

  • If you use it properly, yes.  This was DD's happy place, I would have lost my mind without the moby.  She would scream every night until I put her in and walked around till she fell asleep.  Then she'd sleep like the dead until I took her out.
ETA: we have an Ergo now and I don't think DD would have liked it as much in the beginning.  She loved being held close and tight to me.  The Ergo though is fantastic once their bigger.  After about 4 months DD didn't want to be so confined so I switched to different carriers.
  • I loved mine, and used mine from like 2 wks of age. DS loved it, he napped in it quiet well, and I got so much done with it. I will say that it was pain to learn how to do at first, but I got used to it.

I will also say that if I were going to use the Moby out and about with my son, I would 'pre tie' it on me, drive to destination, then put him in it (safely) - it is really really long and there was no way I was going to tie that thing around me in a parking lot or public place with unsanitary ground/floor.
