If you have a cat

Where do you keep your kitty's water dish?  We have hardwood floors or tile.  We had issues in an apartment with the water spilling over causing the boards to warp so we have been keeping the water dish on the tile floor in our guest bathroom.  But now, the tile is cracking from the water spilling over around the dish (I can only imagine what this means for the boards under the floor Tongue Tied.  Have you found something to keep the dish in so that they don't spill as much?

Re: If you have a cat

  • B/c of our dog, we keep the cats' food & water up on a microwave cart where they can access it whenever they want.  But, we keep the dog's water in a bowl on the hardwood floor.  We have a pet placemat thing to protect the floors, and the water is in a heavy ceramic bowl, so it's not easy to knock over.

This, except we just use an old dishtowel as a placemat.

  • I'm thinking we may have to get some sort of baking pan with a lip or something to set the bowl on.  Our cat likes to splash water out of the bowl.  We have a placemat under it but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.  Maybe trying the dishtowel on the placemat and replacing it every day or so might help.  Thanks!

  • I have a placemat that has a lip on it, so if she spills water it won't run off the sides. You can get them at PetSmart, Petco, etc.

That's what we have too.  It's also a much thicker plastic than a plastic place mat you'd buy for your kitchen.

ETA: Ours is like this one: https://www.petco.com/product/9794/Caddis-Pet-Products-Paw-Print-Placemat-in-Translucent.aspx

  • I'm heading to the store today to get one!  Thanks!
