I EBF and Andrew tends to eat for approx. 30 min per feeding. He does take both breasts and will switch after about 20 min on one. I'm starting to think that after he "empties" the first breast then he starts comfort nursing. How do I know for sure? The reason I suspect that is because his sucks get very soft and different from when he is first feeding. He makes a lot of noise when he eats so it's hard to hear an audible swallow. Also, a few times this week after 20 min on the first breast I will try to manually squeeze out some milk and a couple times I was unable to get any easily so that got me wondering if he was just comfort nursing. TIA!
Re: BF question(s) - "emptying" the breast & comfort nursing
When DS is comfort nursing, he does what my LC calls a "flutter suck." He's not pulling on me at all, just kinda lightly sucking/kissing at the nipple. Otherwise, he's eating.
When Andrew moves to the 2nd breast, can you feel him pulling at you?
Looks like we need lkstor to weigh in.
I can tell when Emberlyn is comfort nursing vs. eating because she also does a very light suckle instead of full on sucking.

Yes, I can feel him pulling at the 2nd breast.
lkstor - To answer your question - It doesn't really matter except that he always takes the 2nd breast so I just want to make sure he is getting enough and not just comfort nursing.
Thanks for your help!
