Nursery Colors

Have any of you picked out the color/colors for your nursery yet. We are not finding out the gender and I thought I wanted to go with a nice pale yellow, but then thought a green would be nice, but then all but one bedroom in the house would be green.

 What have you ladies decided?

Re: Nursery Colors

  • We decided to do a pale green as an accent wall and then a tan for the rest of the room. We have a few other ideas, but that is just what we have come up with so far. And we are getting some dark wood furniture. Together it looks really stunning!

  • well we are finding out the gender (Sat actually!!)

but I havent decided if its a girl (DD's nursery was tangerine, her room is now magenta)

If its a boy the walls will be a dark blue (kind of like navy but I want it to have more of an antique feel) with light gray and a deep cinnamon red for accents and fabrics. and brown nursery furniture

  • I really have no clue. So far my favorite bedding for a girl is a plum color so we may keep the walls tan to accent that. For a boy, I wanted grey but that doesn't flow with the rest of our woodwork so it also may end up being tan and accented in bright colors. I have a feeling that as soon as I know if it's a boy or a girl, my mind will come up with something. At least I hope.
  • Have you looked here? Has some great ideas!

  • Hi hampson - regardless of gender, I'm pretty sure we're going to do blue and gold stripes (with some white as well). I like that look. We got the color scheme idea from the gold egg and blue sperm from the photography book A Child is Born. ;-)

I have looked at that site and that is why I am so confused. We have dark furnature for the room and I want to do a farm animal themed room since we live on a farm. Nothing to drastic just some smaller stencils of sheep jumping over a fence and may be a cow or two. But with the dark furnature I am afraid the yellow will look odd although that is what I ahev wanted all along.

We went with a lightish green as the base color (similar to some of the full green rooms in 11Lemon11's link). We are finding out the gender and are decorating the room based on the gender. I think, however, you can do some of the cosmetic decorating (like paintings and pictures) after the baby is born if you wanted gender specific and do just the base paint now. Or you can decorate all gender neutral. I definitely like the ideas in that link. I definitely like the green as a gender neutral color. There is so much you can do with it, and it still makes the room colorful. Yellow can do that too. We didn't go with yellow simply because most of our rooms right now our beige (we haven't painted any other rooms), and we wanted something completely different.

That is such a cute idea! If you guys have been thinking about yellow the whole time, I'd go for it. When you have the room painted and you see it with the dark fruniture and you don't like it, the good thing is that it's just paint, you can always pick another color.

I personally think that yellow will work fines with dark furniture.

  • If we're having a girl we're leaving the colors in our office as-is. It's painted a dusty pinky/purple color with one wall having accents stripes in darker and lighter shades.

If we're having a boy, I have no idea what colors we're doing. I can't really find a boy bedding set that I love. :o/  Once I do, I'm sure it will be easier to pick out a wall color(s).

  • I love the idea of green for a gender neutral nursery.  Lime is such a great color, I love it!  It looks really great with chocolate brown or white or even black.

  • We are going with a pale aqua for our walls. I just picked up a sample container of Sherwin Williams Tame Teal to test out- I am so indecisive on picking pain shades so I'm starting early! I'm making the bedding myself, and matched it to a color that's in the fabric. We will have all white furniture and very pale yellow accents.

  • We are keeping the color that's in there now, though I do have to repaint the ceiling. If it's a boy I think I'll accent with navy. If it's a girl, we'll accent with pink.

  • I took quite a few interior design classes at college and professors HATED putting yellow in a nursery because it is an "active" color and puts someone in an alert mood and is not good for resting, hence why they said most hospitals tend to be a blue or green which are said to be "peaceful" colors and promote rest/sleep.

So who knows what color we will do.  Only are bathrooms and kitchens are painted, the rest of the house is boring tan, so hopefully we can be a little more creative with the nursery!  =)
