I was just reading the post about switching over to milk at one year and it made me think that DS drinks a lot. He drinks about 40-48 oz a day and has since he was around three months, maybe even before. He is really tall for his age but not fat. He also eats two fairly good meals, which hasn't decreased his appetite for milk at all.
Is it really strange that he drinks so much, am I in for the biggest baby of all time? The doctor says he really healthy so I'm not hugely concerned, just kind of mystified.
Re: 40-48 oz of formula a lot?
I think he is definitely in a normal range- especially if he is tall for his age. DD is on the small side of the scale. I remember when DD was your son's age and people were posting about their kids drinking this much and I was shocked because DD has never drank more than 30-34oz a day so it works both ways :-)
I had the same concern with DD. However, everyone said not to worry about it. My DD is also clear when she doesn't want something - she bats the bottle away and turns her head. So, at least I don't feel like I'm force feeding her. Once he starts on more solids, I think it will slow down but I don't think there's a reason to be concerned.
I feel like we're on the road to that soon as my little porker is gulping down 30 oz+/day at 5wks.
And he's truly hungry...he'll try to nurse on my husband!
DS is a bigger kid...short but stocky and has always liked food. He was taking 40 oz. a day when we transitioned him to whole milk.
I thought he would thin out when he no longer had all of those calories, but surprisingly, he's still on the stocky side.
BM is different that formula. Obviously your call, but I would check with your pedi about the amount.
