1st Trimester
At your NT Scan, did your dr tell you what they thought that you were having?
Mine did. He told us that he could point out the ovaries, and that he was 80% sure that we are having a girl. Now, I am not going to go out and buy a ton of girl items, because I know that he can be wrong. But has anyone else had that?
Also, and I know in the scheme of things a day does not matter, but baby is measuring a day ahead now. Which I found mildly interesting. We know when I ovulated, down to a 12 hour range, how many eggs, how big the eggs were, how many spermie men. Pretty much everything thanks to the IUI. And up until now I have been measuring exact to timing. It was just weird that at 11 weeks 6 days I am measuring 12 weeks.

I had my NT on Monday. I said to the tech "it's way too early to tell what it is yet, right?" (just to see whether he would or not) And he said no way would he try to make a gender determination at such an early week.
I guess I can wait.

This was what mine said too. Also keep in mind, at this time a boys testes (sp?) are located in his abdomen in about the same place ovaries would be in a girl, they later decend to the scrotum. You are right not to invest your emotions in an early guess like this. Although it is tempting! Hang in there a while longer!
I said that it was interesting, and I also said that I knew in the scheme of things it did not matter. Just interesting. The science of it all is quite honestly fascinating to me.
Staycee - That is what I thought would happen. But he offered and we took the bite. I guess we shall see in 6-8 weeks how good he really is. Ha!

Last Tuesday my baby was measuring a day behind. Yesterday, it measured a day ahead. It all evens out around 9 months.
Actually that is a good way to think about it! Thanks! I know that I am a very by the books person, always have been and always will be. So the whole day thing made me go, well isn't that interesting.
I read what you said. But babies grow at different rates. You could be a week ahead or behind at your next u/s.
I've just seen a lot of posts lately where people are confused because the estimated age doesn't quite match up and people telling them they may be wrong about when they conceived and I find it silly. If every baby followed that to a T, they would all be born weighing the exact same.
I'm not flaming you, I'm just baffled at the whole idea that even in 1st tri, not all babies are the same and not all babies grow at the same rate. Yes, if there is a significant difference between your calculated EDD and your estimated EDD there could be something wrong or your dates could be off, but at this point, one or two days is nothing. It means you have a healthy baby.
Agreed! The best you can do is be informed and pay attention to your body. Your baby is going to call the shots from now on

You both are very right. LOL. I am staying as informed as possible. It is a constant battle with myself. Which I know, and will make for a long 9 months for me. Who knows, maybe this and raising a child will help fix it. LOL.

I had my NT scan and we don't want to find out, but they didn't really offer anyhow and said it would be too early. But with my coworker, they predicted boy at 12 weeks. She has her big u/s in a couple of weeks, so we'll see if they're right.
Yes on babies growing at different rates, but the measurements are also not terribly accurate. That's why they don't worry about a day or two (even up to a week they won't change the due date).
What is the NT scan? Is that just the same thing as the vaginal ultrasound? When I googled it, it said it was to check for abnormalities using ultrasound. But is that the same routine ultrasound they do at the beginning? ( I know that some Dr. don't even do an ultrasound at the beginning)
My Dr. office gave me a pamphlet about it in my goody bag, but I don't remember anything about it from my last pregnancy.
with ds, the tech told us she was pretty sure it was a boy. i stressed for those 7 wks in between that u/s and the 20wk because my h was sure she was right and i kept warning that it still could be a girl...turned out the original tech was right. though, like pp mentioned, it was not the presence/ location of ovaries or testes, but the angle at which the genital tuber extended from the baby's body. the sex organs are pretty much identical at this stage, they are just headed in different directions.
so despite having the correct guess made at 13 wks, this time around, the tech will not be allowed to guess. i'll wait until 20wks to be sure! lol. i'll see if i can take a peek at the angle and make our own assumptions, but can't have any ideas put in my head by a "professional".
At my NT scan with my duaghter, the Dr. took a guess, and she happened to be right, but I never would have bought anything before it was confirmed. I was even anxious about buying stuff after the big ultrasound. Honestly, I would wait, if you can.
